I heard about this today and I'm not sure why but it really saddened me that the girl died because she was flung from the coach and it landed on her. Are coaches carrying children or people of any age for that matter required to have three point seat belts and if not, why not?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

When i saw this i was horified to see they still attempted to leave in the weather conditions.

Coaches typcially have 2 point seat belts.

Every coach I've been on has had two point seat belts, can't say I've seen anyone bother wearing them apart from the odd person.

I regularly travel on National Express coaches (London return for ~£13!) and pretty much all their coaches have three point. I'd say only about a third wear them. Guess some folk are just too cool to belt up.

It was clearly bad enough to result in a coach crash. You are not in Scotland so presumably are not best placed to judge what the conditions are like.

I assumed this was related to the coach crash that happened near alton towers today, not one that started in Scotland that happened to be going to the same destination.

My bad.

More to the point, why wasn't the trip cancelled due to hazardous conditions.

This was put to the school by some understandably angry parents. The schools response is reportedly that, the kids had all made it in to the school fine that morning through the same conditions and that many other buses in the area had been running without incident. To be honest I agree, if they had canceled everyone would be crying nanny state its only a bit of snow. I suspect a combo of driver error/bad practice in poor conditions and possibly the kid not wearing her seat-belt.

It wasn't near Alton Towers, it was travelling to Alton Towers from Scotland.

Edit: were there two crashes with a death?!
