Today I became redundant and a scrounger

No problem but it was comments like some of the above that made me decide to get away from kids.
The final straw was when I was giving a lesson on Infection Control and Hand Washing Techniques.
I move down to the Skills Lab that looks like a ward and to demonstrate how easy it is to transfer bacteria, I sit on the edge of a hospital bed and get one of the kids to touch my arm when they have a pretend bacteria cream on their hands.
After the lesson, one of the adults who came with the kids, actually asked me if I thought it was appropriate to let a child touch me on the arm while I was sitting on a bed
Amazingly I made no comment that behind the backs of the children, the 4 female adults were pulling down the trousers on the male clinical mannekin with full parts.

Surely that comment from the adult said more about their own paranoia and distorted world-view than it did about your practice.

You should have set them straight in a constructive way and carried on with your methods. Easy for me to be wise though, I'd probably be dumb struck too in that situation.

I can see why you may have begun to question yourself though, it must get demoralising after a while.

Good to hear that you are still working hard!

Out of curiosity, how long have you been teaching? I'm just interested because it is what I'm planning on going into, and I wouldn't mind a bit of first-hand advice from a seasoned teacher! You sound like you've had an interesting career :)

I said that in future I would let one of the kids sit on the bed and let the other kid infect them or I would use one of the mannekins.
When I told my Manager she said how long before someone says I'm encouraging kids to touch each other or touch sex dolls.

You aren't / haven't been made redundant.

No way :)

I'm not a teacher but I am an assistant teacher/trainer/facilitator.
I was taken on 2 years ago and immediately put on a PTTLS course and then went on to do my CTTLS which gave me the necessary certificates to be an assistant teacher.
I was teaching a class of 16 x year 10 kids because I had a qualified teacher in the next room (you can do this).
I wrote the session and lesson plans but she oversaw them and came in to assess.
I also delivered sessions to other schools including Infection Control, 3D Technology, Careers talks etc.
With adults I was delivering sessions in Customer Service, E&D, KSF (NHS thing) and basic computer skills amongst other things.
I really enjoyed it's an experience I'll never forget.

The next day I rang the director who had laid me off and explained about references. I then decided to thank him for laying me off as this allowed me to start my new job at the end of the month. His reaction on the phone was priceless.

Same happened to me some years ago, got made redundant with one months notice and found a job within the week. I had to ask my previous employer to release me early. I wish you could see their faces.

I don't what it is but a lot of bosses don't seem to like it when they find out that you've landed on your feet like that
