Odd question for those who have been to the US...

I have a friend going to the L.A. for a couple of weeks soon, she's going alone (she has friends out there but mostly she's gonna be doing it on her own) and I was wondering if there's anything particularly useful which she might need to take with her...ya know, something which you might get there and all of a sudden think was really useful but didn't think of taking.

Preferably something relatively inexpensive so I can get it for her myself...not that I'm trying to suck up or anything.
 
Map? plug adaptor (but make sure you tell her that some things won't with the electricity over here, ie it will blow it up)

Ok, just to clarify, I'm not gonna give her a vibrator, much less one shaped like my own ****, I'm not sure they can cast something that small.

Seriously though i cant think of anything you would need, or find remotely handy. Its no different to being over here in most respects, the only difference is knowing where you are so maybe a decent city map or a GPS. Or a spanish phrasebook incase she wanders into the latina areas.

Wait!!!! How about a city guide that recommends restaurants or decent hotels or shopping areas and things to do/see?
