Odd question for those who have been to the US...

I'm not actually sure from where to be honest, though she's going next Wednesday. You'd know her if you saw her- in the good way.

Interesting. Don't get her the rape-whistle; things could turn ugly.

On a serious note, have you considered getting her a little travel fan or notebook or something?

She will need to take an open mind. This will be quite a novelty to the Yanks, since they won't have seen one before.

Another possible one would be a cheap video camera depending on your budget, the Kodak ZX1 is reasonable for under £50 if you want to really brown your nose up

Friend of mine went to LA last year and the one thing I recall him saying is that they could find paracetamol and/or ibuprofen no where! They don't sell them in supermarkets like they do here, chemists only (I cant recall if he said anything about having to justify buying them or having a script of some sort) but worth maybe taking some with?

A spanish translation book and a rape whistle.

HAHAHAH!!!!

Map, Money, Plenty of ID, Some English Money, a PocketRocket and lots of Lube.

Hang on, Hang on, She is going "State Side" Whats the vibrator for again?

I bought a couple of packs of advil (ibuprofen) for a migraine when i was there  Think it was at Walgreens, no need for a prescription at all.

Everything is so convenient in America that you really don't need a lot.

If she doesn't have a Guide Book then that can be really useful, I've used Lonely Planet books before and they are pretty good at pointing out strange and interesting places to visit. For example when I was in Claifornia I visited The Mystery Spot which was amusing.
If she is keen on keeping a record of the trip then a diary/notebook would be nice. Possibly decorate it if you want a personal touch. Pictures of USA/LA on the front and Home/UK on the back to show going away and coming home? </cheese>

Cheers man.

Trying to be nice as much as anything else...

So you're trying to be as nice as you are trying to get into her knickers?

Nice!

Travel adapter if she has any "electrical items".
Map.
English->American dictionary.
Travel guide.
Thick socks/neck cushion for the flight.

Your friend is full of something. Advil, Tylenol, Aspirin - there are plenty of pain killers available in pretty much any shop without a prescription.
