Dont Forget VXR Track Day Tickets on Sale Tomorrow

Enjoy the OcUKd cars, if they have gearboxes left :D
:D :D

I take it you get tickets through the post or something for this? When did they arrive last time?

Yeah I'm wondering if the confirmation email with.. rather a sparse amount of info (just a 3-digit confirmation number) is all we get?

How many of us are going to Thruxton on the 14th then? :D

So have we got a confirmation list for Thruxton AM?

Thruxton AM 14th July

That website really is poor though :( I know a few friends that had problems trying to book using any version of IE and had no access to another browser

See above ;)

Cheers for the pic sending over, will await it eagerly!

Has anyone received tickets from Vauxhall or the tracks that you booked?
So far I have received nothing other than that email you get when you book.

Nothing here, only 10 days to go and there's still 39 spaces for the morning session at Knockhill - going to be more cars than people!

I just noticed this I wasn't going to take the day off work but I will book up for the morning session. It should mean plenty of track time and the option of taking some photos of the afternoon session if the weather is good.

If only 11 people booked then they wont take all the cars... they wont want to ruin tyres and brakes on more cars than they need to so they'll still make you wait!! :p

last year they had a list of people who got confirmation e-mails

all you had to do was print your confirmation e-mail and bring that along with you.

What an amazing day at Knockhill. Managed to get in the gravel twice going sideways with the back wheels of the Astra! Breaky and lunch was pretty good to. I will defo go again next year.

In my opinion the Astra was best then the Corsa then far behind the Insignia , by the end of the first session the brakes where pretty cooked on the insignia.

Instruction wise some of them where excellent. Particularly the guy that got me in the gravel he was really really pushing me harder than I thought the car could take which resulted in much fun and better laps for the rest of the day!

Nope, the confirmation email isn't exactly brimming with info either, doesn't even say the date, only has a 3-digit confirmation number. Hopefully that'll be adequate :)

First time for me at one of these this morning at Knockhill. Absolutely fantastic for the money, just great fun.

I was actually surprised at how much I liked driving the Insignia VXR. Knockhill probably isn't the best track for it due to its twisty nature, but it does seem to have decent enough grip and traction and has a great exhaust note. Still feels like a big car though. Astra VXR was the best car, I had gone into the day having heard lots of negative things about the Astra's handling as well as various other negatives. So needless to say I was quite surpised at how it was to drive, Its quite a hoot and I can't say that I can particulalry fault how it handles. The Corsa VXR left me feeling a bit meh, there was nothing particularly wrong with it but nothing made me want to keep driving it. I certainly had more fun in the Astra than the Corsa.

always amuses me that the armchair experts label the VXRs terrible etc.. then turn up to the track days and find they are great fun to drive.

yes they may not be purists choice because of lots of power and front wheel drive, but it doesnt stop them being a hoot to drive.

I just got back from the morning session it was a good day and the breakfast/lunch was a added bonus. With so few places taken for the morning session (31 places were left last night) you had minimal waiting to get into the next car I had so many runs that my score card was full by the 2nd session. The instructors were a bit hit or miss with them giving conflicting advise I would have rather stuck with the same instructor for more laps. I had the same instructor at one point as Amps he was just continually pushing you on allowing you to take the car to its limits and slide it around the corners having him for both sessions would have been great fun.

On the car front I was surprised how slow the Insignia felt on the track looking at the speedo it was climbing at a good rate but the Astra was matching it on the straights and coming out the hairpin it was slower on the pick up compared to the Astra and Corsa. The brakes were shot in a couple of the cars after the morning session and I saw one getting it brakes replaced in the afternoon.

The Astra was the best car for me it went well round the track compared to the torque steering mess I had on a demo of one on our finest public roads. I have done a few track days here in my Mk5 Golf GTI and the Astra is easily on par with it on the track something I didn't expect. One thing that did make me laugh was that one of the cars had keyless start/entry and they had just put a bit of plastic over the hole where the igniton barrell would have been.

On our session they had one touring car driver doing fast laps and he wasn't holding back with the full afternoon session they had two doing the laps.

Here are some photos from the afternoon session.

I agree 100% he really was top class and gave really good advice. By the end of those laps i felt i really had improved.

His comments at one point where "You really want to try and lock up the back wheels" & "Destroy the cones sothere is less to replace". Which i did...

Looking forward to Croft PM on the 28th July

What sort of format did the event take and how long did you manage to get in each car?

Still a bit unsure whether we need our own track day insurance or whether it is included as part of the price?
