As most of you may have seen W1zzard has said he is thinking of leaving TPU.

What do we all think about this? I think he writes some of the best reviews graphics card reviews around. I think he is over reacting a bit to the criticism he has got for using the old drivers, but that was obvious as it was a silly mistake, I do understand how hard and time consuming it is to test 10 odd graphics card or how ever many it is though.

If he does leave I hope he continues his work on GPUZ and it would be good if he helped out ATI with their drivers as he mentions.

He's had this planed months in advance, a little bit of criticism wouldn't make you go this far, he's probably laughing all the way to the bank.

Who?

Whocares?

If he can't be bothered to use the latest drivers for testing purposes, then he's an idiot.

And you say this why...?

It's obvious......been at TPU over eight years and all of a sudden he's had it because of a few posters moaning about drivers, yeah right.

Word is it's going to be an ATI sponsored site.:D

His reviews were well out dated anyway, I mean why bench old games like quake 4, prey and FFS farcry  he's making his job more difficult by benching irrelevant games.

To be honest, with someone so close to the hardware 'scene' as him, I wouldn't see it as a mistake that he used drivers for the ATi cards without the recent months of improvements.

He used catalyst 9.12 which are 3 months out of date, and don't forget these sites get access to drivers early aswell, which for a review comparing performance is not on. By the time the review came out the 10.3 cats were out which gave a big improvement on performance, so anything that review had to say about that would be null and void.

Still someone leaving his job over something like this is an over-reaction in my opinion.

Quit the moaning about the drivers!!

"Let's just prove those idiots wrong". So I started benchmarking the 5870 on 10.3 and posted the results several hours later. As expected the difference was only 2%.

Oh and there's a bit more to follow..................... :D

April's Fool!

Guess we really got you guys this time. I will not be leaving the site, nor will there by any of the announced changes. It was all an elaborate April's Fools Joke that we played on you.

Read on for the details...[---]

As most of you remember, NVIDIA's Fermi launch was at midnight my local time, so I posted the review after countless hours of work, watched how our traffic spiked quickly and went to bed smiling and reliefed that everything went well. After I woke up I grabbed my notebook to check if the site might be crashed or something - no everything was fine, I started reading the comments and was shocked to see all the drama about Catalyst 9.12 being used. While I was aware that 9.12 weren't the latest drivers, I was pretty sure that the performance gains were not significant enough to retest all ATI cards and instead not have something like the Metro & Heaven tests (time is limited). After sifting through hundreds of posts all stating the same I did feel quite some anger towards the userbase in general: I was ****ed. But as countless people stated in the comments for the "I am going away thread" the comments are just a tiny subset of what people think; happy people don't post comments.
Still with some anger I made my first posts in the comment thread: I think I'm done, I'm quitting and a couple more ... after a while I went away from the PC and started thinking a bit about it. "Let's just prove those idiots wrong". So I started benchmarking the 5870 on 10.3 and posted the results several hours later. As expected the difference was only 2%.
As we moved closer to April 1st I thought "hey, why not use those posts to create an epic April's Fools Joke", talked to my good buddy btarunr about it and he also thought it might be worthwile doing. Bta was the only person to know, not even the TPU staff knew. So the post was made and the story unfolded...

While I had originally planned to come clean some time next week, I realized it would be cruel to let you guys suffer that long.

Thank you all for your amazing comments. I had no idea how appreciated my work is. I am also sorry if you were hurt by it - I didn't mean it. Thanks again guys! and again, don't worry, nothing big will change here. Feel free to express your anger toward me in the comments, the mods are instructed to give you even more leeway as usually.

This guy really has far too much self importance to think that it's a big joke that he's playing on us that he's leaving. Suddenly lost interest in his future reviews. Arrogant s***.

He's got room to talk though. He's published so much great info over the years from your basic reviews to hardcore vmod guides.

It's possible he's an arrogant bastid, but as long as he goes back to reviewing hardware as objectively as possible I don't really care.
