Ive currently got an antec 900 (original revision) and thinking of changing to the following fractal design case:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-003-FD&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=1556

on the basis that:

it looks sleeker/more professional
It has noise dampening
It has fantastic cable management

However im concerned about the cooling aspect of the case, will this case offer the same level of cooling as my antec 900 if i fit it with a couple more fans? Or am i better off sticking with what i have? Also very soon i will be moving to watercooling, will i be able to mount a double rad to the inside of this case?

Any views would be welcome :) cheers

i think that it won't be that good for cooling and the amount of HDD bays is a bit excessive, if you could mod a fan vent to the side panal it would probably be pretty good.

This is true, my pan was going to be to remove some of the HDD cages and mount a rad there, then maybe reverse the flow of the fans at the front so that they push rather than pull. The rad would then, hopefully, have an effective push/pull combo going on. Thanks for your input, looks like its going to be a lot of effort =/

edit: scratch that, the rad would have to be mounted at the top otherwise there would be little/ no airflow

I have this case - couldn't recommend it more. I have an H50 cooler exhausting out the back, a roof fan and 2 front intake fans. I have removed the unused HDD trays. Cooling seems not too bad for only 4 fans. I'm running an overclocked i5 setup and max temps get to around 65.

You can't remove one of the cages even if you wanted to I'm afraid, it's all one 8 bay unit :(

There is a site that has a review of the R2 fully loaded with fans (it's first review was with just the 2 supplied fans, this is where i think most peoples idea that the case doesn't keep temps low is from) In the 2nd review the R2 perfromed very well with cool temps.

Google R2 review and look for the Bit-tech reviews.

I like the R2, I'm very happy with mine in it's looks, cooling, quietness, the tidy interior and price i paid ..... I think the only question people need to ask themselves when considering the R2 is how many and of what type of fans you fit for the temps you require, as the more quality fans you fit the higher the overall cost will be and the closer the cost comes to some of the more expensive, but quality cases.

Remove the noise dampers that cover the fan spaces and fill them with fans or it will overheat [edit] if overclocked [edit]. Other than that it is a nice case for the price!
