4th month into ownership, 7000 miles and a set of tyres later and my car has decided it doesn't want to lock :(

When I press the button to lock it the car locks, you here the locking mechanisms working as normal then the thingys in the door pop back up. Locking via the key and pushing the door pops down all engage the central locking so it causes the same affect.

Also the little red light which normally flashes to show the alarm is armed doesn't flash at all now, so I'm guessing it might be something to do with that?

It's very unnerving as I'm in South London today and not in the nicest of areas :( - Although I've left no valuables in the car.

Spoke to -westy- who suggested disconnecting the battery to try and reset the ecu/alarm, apart from that any other suggestions? I'll be doing these tomorrow as I'm not working then.

Cheers,

Jake

It might not be insured if you leave it unlocked!

This is also another concern!

Although why anyone would want to nick it I don't know. It hasn't been cleaned since I got it, inside or out, it's an absolute shed...but still...some people don't have standards afterall :p

Remove the lock from a boot and use two padlocks (like some van drivers do), then superglue all the doors shut. Now you can just climb through the boot when you need to get in.

Only disadvantage I can see here is that you have 2keys instead of one. Stinks of genius tbh.

:D

Your sure its not something blocking the lock mechanisms on the doors? Checked boot etc. Does the bonnet have a lock as part of the central locking. My old Peugeot would do this if one of the doors etc. wasn't quite locked right, so you could slam it harder and try again :p.

The motors tend to go, listen to both the doors and see which one is struggling or not locking. When ones doesn't lock, the central locking unlocks them all to let you know.

I miss my Coupe :(

Cheers mate, are they easy to replace?

Its not exactly hard to unlock the car without the keys, takes a whole 5 seconds to get in with only your bare hands without breaking windows.

Does the immob work or not, if you "lock" it with the fob, then it unlocks the doors, can you still start it?

Yeh when I said in the OP about locking it 'with the button' I meant the immob. Yep can still start it.

If the doors lock and then un-lock, it means there's a fault somewhere. The central locking and alarm/immob are all tied in with each other which would explain why the light doesn't flash.

So, you press the fob or lock with the key, the doors lock and then unlock again about half a second later? Do they sound ok? Quick whirring noise as the doors lock?

If you can't lock the car, you can secure it by disconnecting the battery and then locking the car manually. You can then get back into the car by unlocking with the key.
