Can anyone please recommend me a decent safe to use European to UK Plug Adapter?

Hi

Can anyone please recommend me a decent safe to use US to UK Plug Adapter??? The reason why i`m asking is because i've got a hold of a Creative Decoder DDTS-100 but unforchantly it comes with a two prong AC US power supply, so I can`t power her up.

Below is the voltage details that are shown on the power supply.

INPUT 230V 50Hz 100mA

OUTPUT 16V 600mA

Thank You!

It's a standard European plug as if it were American then the power supply would have a 110v ~ 120v input voltage requirement shown on it. Look for a '2 Pin European Mains Adapter to UK Plug' like this one....

I just checked and it's definitely a european AC power supply supplied with it.

As far as I know I need a 16v compatible AC Adapter for the Creative Decoder DDTS-100 but searching on google people are saying 16v AC Adapters can be hard to find???

I need one that will definitely work with the voltage requirements above in my first post.

As far as I understand you already have a power supply, except it has a European plug? The power supply is rated to work at 230v which is within the power rating we use in Europe (220v ~ 240v) so you only need to convert the physical plug. The plug shown above will work just fine. The 16v you are talking about is what the actual decoder needs in terms of voltage so the power supply is effectively a transformer similar to that used on Laptops - It take's the mains voltage and step's it down accordingly for the appliance.

Yes I have the power supply but it has a European plug coming from it.

Note: The two prongs on the European power supply are coming from the AC power supply itself.

You'll be fine. The product was intended for a European market and that's the main thing so just get one of the adapters I was on about above. When I bought a set of Technics turntables many years ago they came with the exact same plugs you describe. I cut them off and fitted a UK plug with no problems (this is £700 worth of kit we are talking about here by the way!). The voltage is the main thing always to look out for as getting that wrong will result in a small explosion and a distinct smell of burnt toast. lol !

But I can`t do the same thing you did because the AC power supply plugs into the mains itself.

Hmm. Can you take a pic for us perhaps?

The power supply looks a bit like the one in the screen below but with just two round european prongs.

The part that has the two prongs on my one is a lot narrower than what you see in the screen above because
I think the one in the screen has some kind of adapter on it.

For anyone else reading this thread that should encounter the same thing.. Check what Voltage the power supply uses. If it says anything other than 220v ~ 240v then it's not intended for use in the UK. Sylver123 bought a Creative decoder with a European power adapter but he can use it in the UK as it's rated for our mains power supply.

Hi again

My mom searched out one of those adapters but really meant for a shaver and I tried it but the Creative Decoder DDTS-100 didn`t power up.

Note: this adapter has only a 1 amp fuse, so I take it that's probably the reason why it didn`t power the DDTS-100 because of the amp on the fuse being to low and I would need something like between 5 and 13 amp fuse???

Thanks for responding.

Sylver123 the fuse should not matter. For it to 'power up' it only needs a 220v power supply (which you have). Either you have a faulty power adapter or a faulty power supply.

Hi

I just to let everyone know I got the Creative Decoder DDTS-100 finally powered up.

It was the fuse on the adapter my mom gave me that was blown so I searched the house for one and surprise I found one that was working.

I just want to thank everyone that responded with help.

Thanks again guys.

Regards,
Sylver123
