Autocar's got a poll on the best hot hatch ever.
http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=248595

What is OcUK's greatest hot hatch?
There are so many great cars on that list, it's so hard to choose one.
My heart says the Lancia Delta Integrale, but it's up against cars like the Escort Cosworth and various Renaults..

There are some odd items on the shortlist though, like the Skoda vRS and the Fiat Cinquecento Sporting..

My Ideal garage would Include the following.

Lancia Delta Integrale
Pug 205 GTI
Reno Clio 182 cup or Reno 5GT
Reno Megane R26.R
Vw Golf GTI MK2

They would probably lose to a diesel repmobile at the traffic light GP, but they are so much fun!

There's something terribly wrong about a picture of a Nissan Almera beside the words "The best hot hatch ever".

Too many to chose from!

Of the modern lot my choice would be a Clio 182 Trophy, before that the Lancia and before that the Mk1 GTi Golf. Too hard to chose an outright winner between them.

Whilst hatchbacks there are two different categories of car there imo. Big hatchbacks and small hatchbacks. The Focus, Escort, Meganne and Leon for example I would say offer up considerably more weight/space that most of the others. But that's just me - my opinion of a "Hot Hatch" is something near 1000KG with less than 200bhp that you can throw around like a go kart.

I've had 205 GTi's, Golfs, Escort rs turbo, Montego turbo (sorry), Fiat Uno Turbo and without doubt the most fun I've had in a hatch was my Astra 2.0 GTE 16v.
It was fast, great fun to drive and was like the starship enterprise with it's digital dash, god I loved that car.

My idea of a hot-hatch is the "pocket rocket" idea, I love Cossie's but them and Integrales are in a different league to the GTI's etc.

Not my thing, but the 205 gti has to be one of the best hot hatches, I'd have a mk2 XR2 first though.
