Hi Guys,

I'm just waiting for the insurance and RTI to payout on my Cupra (had a nasty accident on Sat) and I quite fancy a Type R GT.

My Budget is around 11-12k, so I think I'll be looking at 2007/2008 models for this money. I can't seem to find any info on Xenon's and if they are standard on this model.

If not, are the headlamps Projectors? I think the 2009 comes with Xenons? Would that be a faily easy upgrade route down the line?

I know it's a Honda, but how is reliabilty? Has anyone had any problems with their Type R's?

I can't honestly think of anything else in my budget that I like the look of and just keep coming back to these.

Any advise welcome.

Only the Championship White came with Xenons as standard. I think later ones do too (2009+), but they're an option otherwise. The headlights are reflectors.

The civic forums have some HID upgrades for sale, to be honest thou the lights aren't that bad. The 2009 cars, as long as it a 2009 model year, do have them, other way to check is if it has the USB port in the centre console.

Reliability wise mine has been fine but it is a stupidly hard ride, to the extent that my Mrs hates it. Its much much much less forgiving than our 335d M-Sport on runflats. If your used to Turbo power delivery make sure you test the heck out of a Type R as its very different and might not be what your after, as in 3rd the VTEC doesn't kick in until over an indicated 60 and 4th at just under 70.

I belive the MY09 model and onwards has them? (2009+)

Becareful as some 2009 registed cars are the 08model. Check to ensure its a MY09, best way to do this is lift up the glove box and check if it has aux/usb connector.

Never had any problems with mine, as its a honda the engine is bullet proof!

This is very true, you do soon get used to driving the high revving engine and I love it, when I go back to a turbo I do notice abit more 'low down' grunt but to be honest in the Type R it has enough to do the job.

With reference to the vtec not kicking in till over 60 in 3rd gear, i'm pretty sure it kicks in well before that?
