Why are people voting the 205 gti 1.6 instead of the 1.9?

205 gti 1.9, but then my mrs owns one so I am bias.
 
i think criteria for our OCUK hot hatch favourite should be changed to the following
1.FWD Only
2.No HOMO-SPECIALS (lol) examples inculde Nissan Pulsar's Lancia Deltas,Cossies (although this would discount a 306 s16 sadly)
3.also **** the list
let the battles begin,
any one argree or would like to add to what i have said?
 
Oi. Why hasn't anybody mentioned the Punto GT ;-)
I had one of those. 1.4 turbo.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeee! Great days. Till it fell apart.

Because there really wasn't that much between them, except a whole lot of fuel and cost of ownership.

IMO, Golk Mk 1 GTI. This car pretty much invented the genre in the mainstream.
 
I got seriously embarrassed once by a 1.9gti when I was a teenager.

Thought my nova 1.4sr with Courtney premium suspension(bilstein) would cope.

But no. He kept circling me like a TIE fighter.
 
For me the best has to be the 309gti, or if we can have models that didn't make it to Britain then the Mi16 version. So much more fun than the 205 as it's a lot easier to push it closer to the limit. If people insist on a 205 then it needs to be a 1.9 with the 1.6 box as it transforms it, as standard the 1.6 is a better drive.

As a very leftfield choice I used to enjoy borrowing my dad's Renault 5 GTX and I did used to want a Nova GSi.

Modern stuff is much quicker,safer and duller but if I was after a hot hatch today it'd be a Mk5 Golf gti.
 
I would have voted for the ST if it was there, I don't consider the RS, simply because its above hot hatch pricing.

So I voted for the Strada instead :)
