Hi

Looking to spend around £500 on a new bicycle soon. I want something decent for the money obviously, however I'll probably also upgrade/modify the bike eventually.

Any suggestions? Makes, models?

Will be doing mostly offroad.

Thanks
Craig.

Fury is 550 i think and well worth the dollar!

voodoo bantu if you can stretch the extra £80 is a cracking bike for the money.

Carrera fury, as mentioned, is also an option

If you can find any stores with an 08 fury still in stock, they're £499 at the moment

Love the look of the Carrera Fury. Is that the one you were on about Westie?

I have the Fury '08 and I love it. Mine came with the X7 rear mech, although that was about 18 months ago.

yep my mates got it! i got GT XC2 atm and its gonna be my next bike!

its soooooooooooooo nice :D

Cool, it's a very nice bike. Going to go look tomorrow at Halfords as I'll probably be in town anyway.

What it like for upgrading/modifying? It hasn't got any stupid proprietary parts/sizes or anything has it?

Quite tempting to order it online purely for the fact that it comes in pieces. How unassembled is it? Or is it literally just the wheels I'd need to put on?

its up to if you let Halfords put it together for you, its really hit and miss!

they built my GT perfectly except the rear de-railer needed some adjusting! however when they built my mates fury it was a right mess but luckily he knows what he's doing with bikes and rebuilt it himself!

I found that getting a rear de-ralier adjusted correctly can take some time, probably something that they couldn't be bothered to put in. I used to work with a few people that had jobs in the cycleworks, although they were good mates I wouldn't have trusted them to put my bike together.

The first few reviews on the Halfords website say the people that put it together got grease on the breaks which had to be cleaned off before they'd work properly. I really don't like the idea of 'some guy' putting my £550 bike together and making a mess of it.

If I was to just take it from them in the box, does it come with instructions? I really don't know enough about bikes to trust myself putting it together properly without a manual.

Some people on the bikeradar forums have bought the Fury frame separately (~£150) and built a bike from there. Is the frame on it's own available? I'd love to gradually build up my own bike.

Craig.

They come with the front wheel off, pedals off, seatpost and bars are off too. Not that difficult to assemble it yourself.

You can buy the frame sperately, well I ordered one for a customer a few years ago. Have a chat witht he guys in the bike section and work out if they have a clue. It's usually pretty obvious who has a clue and who doesn't.
