Where is a good place for getting plans? I want to build a chest of drawers and or maybe a file cabinet.

I just got a table saw for doing window trim and I didn't know it would be so fun to have one. It's a really enchanting machine lol.

Anyway I want to build some furniture or something now.

I also have a miter saw, circular saw and jigsaw so that should cover all the bases I hope.

i rather like carpentry, when i build things i tend to just plan 'em out myself.

i built myself a wooden/paper lantern just recently, and a few years ago i built a dining table :)

You will probably find plans in woodworking books in the library. If not it would be very simple to knock some plans up yourself.

Depends on the construction method you use but you may need a router to make mortise and tenon joints. Or you could do this by hand with a firmer chisel and tenon saw. Or maybe use some quick fixings but these wouldn't be as strong.

The mortise and tenons were both done with a cheap router and flute cutter.

If you're using pine you can buy all the sizes you would need planed all round so you would just have to cut to length and join them. For the top and side you may need to join the planks together so a biscuit cutter for the router and a couple of sash clamps would be needed as well.

re the biscuit cutter, iirc some of the online stores do complete units for little more than the cost of the cutter for the router  (and it saves messing with the router* and slightly safer I'd imagine).

Re the plans, as mentioned the library, a lot of charity shops seem to have general DIY books which often have basic plans (many of the larger general DIY books give examples of projects), or even online there are sites with downloadable plans.

Although as Mark says it's quite easy to knock up some plans yourself once you know what you want to do/how much space, and the materials available.

Just remember the old adage about measuring twice, cutting once :)

At some point I need to get round to making more DVD storage (I made a couple of sets of drawers last time, I think I may neeed to make taller ones:p), and possibly sort out a "built in" wardrobe for my room :)

*We've ended up with I think 3 (a half inch, and two quarter inch ones), which is actually quite handy if doing multiple items (when doing something I can leave them set correctly for different tasks).

Lol. Nothing useful to add here except sharing your enjoyment :D

Next on my shopping list is a circular saw to go with my Makita Li-Ion batteries. A guy I used to work with had one and it was awesome x 10. Went through 3/4" ply like it was butter :D
