I've had to brave a reinstall of win XP Pro on a friends laptop (nx8220) and after d/loading all the drivers from HP site theres nothing with a yellow question mark in device manager-so far so good- but the wireless network icon has a red X at it but it says in device manager its working properly:mad:
I havent a scooby what to do now- help me please as this friend is my boss and I said it would be simple:eek:

try right clicking on the device and uninstalling it but dont tick uninstall software and once uninstalled reboot system and let the system reinstall and try again ?

thanks, done that and its still back with the red X between the monitors symbol:mad::mad:

not sure what to suggest then, unless the driver is not the correct driver or its a slight variation between driver models and you installed the wrong one ect.

ok thanks anyway, fortunately my female boss is a bit of a babe so maybe she'll punish me;) :D

looks like I'll have to go the the robbers at a competitor for a fix:(

Make sure there is no switch on the laptop that you need to switch on to enable the wireless adapter, it may also be switched on and off via keys on the keyboard.

thanks M, there is a switch that looks like wireless but when I press it it wants to install drivers and gives 3 locations ie CD or USB or system I dont have the cd or usb and theres no conflicts in device manager so should I let it try from the system?

If its above or near the F4 key then thats the wireless switch, let it install the drivers or download them install them yourself.
