So after 3.5 years the love started to fade for the Grande Punto and after numerous breakdowns and costly repairs she had to go, and the search was on.

I wanted a new car that will be more reliable and is a bit larger for all the things I need to carry for work, plus the distances I need to cover for work have increased since the purchase of my Punto.

I initially was looking for a car that was 2-3 years old but with plenty of toys and a bit of poke, but saw this in the showroom when I went into a not so local Honda garage in Newcastle and was given a good deal.

It's a Honda Civic Type S GT 2.2 cdti.

To say I'm pleased with it is an understatement it is so nice to drive compared to what I was used to after the backbraking ride of the Punto.

The engine is fantastic, revs so smooth and doesn't seem to have the characteristics of a diesel engine and not too much tractor noises.

I've lost a few toys like in-car bluetooth phone and leather seats but the panoramic sunroof makes up for it as it lets so much light in.

Guess I need a new sig now :D

Were you not tempted to use the opportunity to go for something much better rather than just a small 'upgrade'?

I would consider public transport a small upgrade from a Punto. A Honda is quite a big upgrade is it not?

Nice looking them, i think i would have gone for a 1 year old to ease the sting a bit.

Still enjoy, good colour too.

It's a £20,000 car. I just cannot get over in my head the concept of having £20,000 to spend on a car and then coming home with the keys to a 3 door Civic hatchback with a diesel engine. This clouds my judgement of the car I am afraid :(

how much then?

Thanks everyone, I'm over the moon with it.
It was up for £20,002, as Fox pointed out a £20k car but got it for £15.4k so got a good deal on a new car with 10 miles on it I think.
They had a used 1 year old one which up for £16k but they couldn't offer this scale of discount, so buying new made sense in this case.

I think its a huge upgrade for me, bigger car, more comfortable plus the colour has just been introduced to the civic and will only be on the type s so is quite exclusive (for a while anyway).

At the end of the day everyone has different tastes in cars, for instance personally I don't like BMWs and wouldn't consider one but thats my opinion. They're still nice cars but not for me.

£20k sounds like an awful lot of money for a Civic but £15.4k is a lot more palatable. If you keep it for a few years then it seems like quite a sound purchase to me :).

Nice colour/wheels too.

What extras did you get?

Its a standard Type S GT spec, so comes with cruise, climate, USB port, panoramic roof, auto wipers etc...
There are only a few options to get on the car like sat nav but I won't miss that and 18s.

25% discount is much better - was it a pre-reg?

No I'm the first registered keeper.
