GTX 280 runs slower with each driver update...

No offence Rroff, but yours would be ;)

What do people consider the fastest driver ? I really could do with a little more performance.

Its going to be 186.18, 191.07, 191.87 or 197.25. Which exact one will depend on your setup, 197.25 tho has proper support for newer games, specially multi GPU profiles and seems faster with SLI than the older ones. For single card probably 186.18 or modded 191.87 are best depending if you want to inf mod or not.

I've recently installed 197.13 but stupidly deleted the download for the old drivers and can't remember which they were- think it was 186(something). My GTX260 is now unstable at OC's that were running fine on every game before I updated the drivers. I didn't realise that it could make such a difference! Not sure if the issue is that Riva tuner isn't set up for the new drivers yet- this could be causig the OC problems I guess
It runs fine at stock or a mild OC (by fine I mean it's stable, I don't know though if it's faster or slower in terms of FPS)

I might try going back to a little after the GTX285 release driver and working forward. That's when things started getting odd IIRC.

Several people have said 197.13 seems to increase their temps quite a bit - which could make all the difference on a previously stable overclock.

Anything previous to 186.18 is a waste of time - you will lose support for too many games even if you do get performance increases any how.

It would be interesting to see a comparison chart of the effect drivers have on the various cards. Maybe someone should e-mail Charlie.

i've done comparing between drivers running Haven (DX10, 1920x1200, AAx2, Anix4, fs) and Call of Juarez benchmarks.

best results were for drivers 186.18, but a lot of new games wont run with it so i had to opt for the second best 191.07.

i get avg 33 fps in Haven in mentioned above settings, CoJ bench is running max settings with 27 fps avg.

now, when using 197.13 and up, frames in Haven drop by half, also there's stuttering and pauses when switching scenes.

CoJ benchmark turns into a slideshow with 10 fps average.

DX9 games like Mass Effect suffer from micro stuttering and annoying pauses, when paired with new drivers.

Nvidia is playing it naught so im going ATi next month i guess...

Nvidia, always putting their users first. No logic whatsoever to their drivers are there? I am stuck with ones from 6 months ago or so as I am not sure wether 191.328732823b1232 is better than 198.328278238a783278 beta 7.1 :P

What cards do you have?

Also, Rroff, do please take note of this post when you feel the need to go on about driver superiorities when it comes to nVidia, it's becoming increasingly apparent that nVidia drivers are shockingly bad and that green boys go on about ATi drivers while probably pretending that they aren't having any driver issues themselves.

It evidently isn't and I'm not so sure why you're so insistent on "proving this".

Even if it was true, it looks like a bad nVidia drive is leagues "ahead" of a bad ATi driver in being crap.

A good nVidia driver is still far superior to a good ATI driver.

ok. I was over the top on that.. but you lot need a break .your whole life is so obsessed with ati and nvidia.:cool:

The only thing evident is that nVidia have driver problems too - and I've never suggested otherwise. The good drivers are good and (so far) frequent enough that the bad ones don't really matter.

nVidia have been on a roll when it comes to bad drivers lately, I'm guessing their GPU roasting driver is one that doesn't matter as well?

"didn't happen, LALALALA".

That doesn't change the fact that when they have good drivers they are very good and theres enough recent enough good ones that consumers aren't left lacking, if a little confused.
