About to rma 4870x2
They offering a replacement of 2 5770 how will these compare cross fired compared to my 4870x2.
Ironically i got another 4870 1gb waiting to tri fire next week when my new power supply arrives.

take them. DX 11 lower power consumption. will be around the same better in some games. newer drivers coming out will mature them more.

Similar performance in single card mode. The 4870 for dx9 is marginally faster but the 5770 has dx11 and a tiny power consumption. That's for single card operation. However cat 10.3 has improved performance for the 5x00 series and especially crossfire; then 5770 will have longer driver support (was surprised when my x1900xt was reduced to "legacy" driver support).

Take the two 5770s. As the others have said, similiar performance, lower power consumption, newer tech and great overclockers. Also if the games you play hate xfire you can always disable it ;) Also if you have already ordered that 1gb 4870 then sell it and get another 5770 for trifire

So overclockers offering me 2 5770's or a partial refund how much they can't say. I asked for a single 5870 as running 2 cards in my ud5 would render my pci slots use less so my £150 xfi would be left out and my video capture card to.
They say they not prepared to do that. I also have a 4650 on the bottom pci-e slot for a third monitor.
I would have thought after the £1000's i've spent with them they would be fair and cater to my needs.
Thats why i bought a single 4870x2 when they built me my pc instesd of 2 single 4870's

Ask for a pair of 5830's or a single high end card that at least as fast as the 4870 x2.

It seems a little cheap offering you two low end cards, to replace your high end 4870 and kill your three card set-up.

If they can't replace your 4870x2 like for like, you could request a refund.

Well i already own the single 4870 its in the wifes pc I was going to buy her a 5770 so she could run 3 monitors of 1 card at the moment she has 2 graphics cards running independantly .I'm waiting for the upgraded power supply to come

If ur not wanting the 2 5570's, but you asked and got refused the 5870, try asking for a 5850, its what id do lol.

Exactly - they're unlikely to give an offer of £230~ worth of graphics cards (2x 5770) and then accept your request for a £300 graphics card (5870). Try a 5850 and they may well do that - 5870 no chance.

Could do but it took me 40 mins to get through to them . Plus what about the performance of the 5850 compared to what i had.

Well what games do you play? If it's recent things then the 5850 will dominate the 4870x2 as it has Dx11.
There isn't that much of a performance difference between the two anyway - and 5850s easily clock up to, and can go beyond, 5870 speeds...

The 5850 is also a lot more power efficient.

Performance wise i would say 2 x 5770's = 5850 or slightly better, 5850 overclocked abit beats them.

That and you can easily overclock the 5850 to 5870 speeds no problems, from what iv been reading on here.

Anything they offer you will be slower, apart from a 5970. No way would I take a 5850 in a swap for a 4870x2.

Why? The 5850, when clocked, will be on par with 4870x2 performance, will run a heck of a lot quieter, will run a lot cooler, will use less power and is a single card solution?:confused:
