New car time!

Yeah, it's specs look really epic. 138BHP from a 2.2 litre turbo diesel, 340NM torque, 54MPG combined cycle?

That's a whole truckload worse than for example the 320d. 2 litre, 184BHP, 380NM torque, and 60MPG.

or more comparably the BMW 120D M Sport

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/pricesan...-WkIzMQ==@sit-bmwuk,00.html?tab=technicalSpec

177bhp, 350NM and 60mpg combined

but we all know after fox's extensive driving of 120D you wont get 60MPG, same way you wont get 54MPG in the civic probably. So fuel economy is about the same, torque is about the same, and the BMW costs £4k more

Granted you get an extra 40bhp more. But you pay for it.

I love the colour, never seen one in that before. Shame they never did the Type-Rs in colours like that (unless you lived in a vague European country anyway). There wheels look a bit dull and lost compared to the bod colour though, but that could be the pics.

I agree about the engine. Driven it in a similar spec Civic and the previous shape Accord and was pretty quiet and smooth. Not my kind of car though, not lairy enough!

The guy is happy with his car. Can't you just say 'Nice car' rather than tell him how crap it is compared to a BMW?

Indeed, I agree. There's an anagram of Watt that comes to mind when I read some of his posts and I'm clearly not the only one thinking it.

Isn't it a shame we all don't like to buy older BMW's. What a surprise not everyone wants a larger car.

Nice car OP, I like them a lot. I was considering one myself recently, petrol version. I just needed a small town runabout for the Mrs to ferry the son so it was a bit big for just doing that. I'd certainly like one though when it's time to chop in my commuter diesel. :)

I hated the roof initially and didn't see the point but really like it now in our Honda.

It may not be the most powerfull of engines, but its a very refined engine and does rev well for a Diesel.

The 120d/320d are indeed more powerfull, but are pretty clattery, and are quite a bit more expensive than the civic, so its not really worth comparing them.

if he trading in the punto we do not really know how much he paid, all the salesman sees is cost to change.

He was referring to the current new 320d, not a used one. Still irrelevent, mind, given its about £5000 more expensive. As for clattery, the Civic diesel is just as clattery if not more so?

Was it £15.4k inc the Punto or £15.4k *plus* the Punto?

That shade of blue looks similar to the VXR blues...

Not really...

It's a new colour they have just started doing in the Civic called cerulean blue, the pics aren't the best looks much better in person. They were taken on my iphone 3g which doesn't have the best camera on a overcast day but its the only camera I have that I can find the cable for. I think the wheels just look a bit dull on the pics and they were taken after about 150 miles of driving so aren't clean.

Although I haven't parked next to a blue VXR I think they're a shade darker, a more deeper blue.
This pic was taken when I collected it, same camera but better light and shows the colour a bit better.

On idle the engine does sound like a diesel but very hushed but once reved it looses the clatter and sounds more electrical/petrol like.

I thought the Grande Punto was supposed to be reliable..

It was while it was in warranty but after 3 years it turned into a friday afternoon car, in 6 months I've had the egr valve go, alternator pack up, air conditioning pipes replaced, electrical faults, suspension knocking. Good car, my sister has one too but the 1.4 8v and mine was the 1.9 mjet.
I would recommend one but not mine.
