how far can you bend tubing with coils ??

hi there,
im in the process of my new build and i need to make a very tight bend with the tubing, if i got some coils, how much can you physically bend them ?

it all depends on the thickness of the tubing and also the type of tubing you are using.
Coils will help and your better off with thicker walls on the tubing for tight bends as this wont collapse as easily.
 
Coils will help to a degree but don't expect miracles, larger tubing such as 1/2" doesn't bend as well as smaller tubing, the smaller you go the tighter the bend can be before the walls start to collapse in.

If it's a small case i tend to use 3/8" for ease and mobility, otherwise standard desktop cases or bigger it'll be 7/16", which is a good trade off between flow rate and workability.
 
well im on a tight budget and ive already got a few 1/2 compression fittings and dont really want to be splashing out on extra fittings.
its not a really major bend but the tubing i have (dont know what make or anything) just starts to go in when i get to the position i need it in.

can you not get a smaller coil and put it on the inside of the tube? that would stop it caving in.
 
Cheap alternative to coils is a series of closely spaced cable ties on the outiside of the tube where the bend is. It works but doesn't look so good unfortunately.

Can't see any advantage in putting a coil inside a tube, cost saving or otherwise.

well with the coil on the inside the tube would have to crush the coil to cave in which takes considerably more energy than just to push it out slighly if the coild is used on the outside of the tube.
