Hi there, i just bought a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 (rev 3.3).

I power it up, it dosen't POST and resets every 30 seconds. I think it may have something to do with my RAM (Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 2GB) but im not sure, note that after putting everything back onto my old motherboard (Asus P5N73-AM) it all worked fine.

I have tried using different RAM slots, and a single stick of RAM in the first slot, when the RAM is not in the board it continuously bleeps as it should which is what lead me thinking it porbably has something to do with it.

So is this a problem with the mobo or do i have a compatibility issue? My specs are attached in my sig.

Thanks for any help/suggestions, i really need it on this one .

You might have a corrupt CMOS. Try re-setting/clearing it. I'd be very surprised if you've got a duff motherboard. It'd be the first duff Gigabyte board I've heard

okay, so i've tried both of these things and still no luck. Im totally stumped with other things to try, is there no chance that the ram is incompatible with the motherboard? im still convinced it has something to do with the RAM.

so no-one else has any idea what this could be? its driving me up the bend, i cant think of anything else to try.

What CPU are you using in it? It may need a bios flash for a recent CPU

If its the one in your sig it mostl likely will have to be flashed

okay, i don't really understand how i would go about doing that.. i've never done it before but if it could be the problem i will give it a go? the thing is i can't get any output to my monitor; when i power up i just get a blank screen (the only way i can tell it resets is because the fans power down?). Thanks for your help!

oh and yes, it is the e8400 in my sig

What youre describing is a classic symptom of the bios needing to be flashed. You could do with getting hold of an old Socket 775 P4, C2D ( E6300, 6400, 6600 ) or an old 775 celeron and using it while flashing then switch back to your E8400

Firstly, I'd step the overclocking back to stock settings.. It's very difficult to diagnose problems like this if the stock settings aren't stable. Disconnect everything that isn't essential.. i.e case fans, extra HDDs, opticals, Does that work? If so then your PSU isn't powerfull enough.

However, it does sound like a power issue to me. Check the PSU is supplying the correct voltages using a mutlimeter and the 520 is providing the 40amps on the 12v rails.

It might also be worth flasing the BIOS to 0602 just in case.

If the PSU appears to be correct, the settings are stock settings and you are on the latest BIOS, then it may be correct in saying there's a possible fault with the mobo.

Thanks, ill see what i can dig up and follow some online tutorial to flash my bios.
