I recently decided to overclock my GPU using msi afterburner. I found a lot of videos/instructions on how to get your 5870 to 1ghz. i increased volatge to suggested amount & shader etc and ran furmark. it crashed after around 20mins to i decided i was happy with stock and went back. ever since tho ive had a few problems playing games. (i unintsalled msi btw) i then ran a furmark at stock volts etc and it ran for 35 mins without one problem.

1: fallout 3. the game randomly freezes/crashs my computer after 30-45mins. ive never had this before but ive looked on the net and LOADS are having the same problem as what ive described and its a common bug/glitch

2:i was playing BFBC2 tonight and the graphics bugged out (gun dissipeared, a overhead helecopter spazed out, textures went weird etc) Ive heard a lot of people have had this problem too (tho i never have)

3: i decided to play crysis to really stress out the gpu with everything on max. Everything was a fine but at one point when ever i aimed/zoomed some textures went black!

Now most of these could be put down to coninsidence/random gltichs etc but deep down im worried ive *** FULLY STAR SWEARIES IN FUTURE *** up my gpu -_- are there any sure ways i can tell if my gpu is *** FULLY STAR SWEARIES IN FUTURE ***? Surely a 35mins test on furmark is enough to see if its stable??:(

P.s When ever the problems occure the gpu is at its normal temps of 45-60c (it was at these temps a while back)

I would resinstall the drivers and try the card in other PC's

I once OCed a cpu at work (A since gone computer company) for testing and it burnt a mainboard out in 10 seconds. This was a mild OC to. By the sounds of it the card is nacked it only takes one component to flake out and the whole lot dies and sometimes you get unlucky and it happens very quickly.

Sounds like you may have been VERY unlucky. It's usually quite tough to damage something through OCing these days.

Try running the fan on 100% maybe to check to see if there's some random component overheating that doesn't have a sensor. I'd try to do a full reformat too since direct x has bugged out on me before (although trying it another PC would solve that)

Maybe try underclocking/undervolting the card too to see if that fixes the problems? (just for a laugh)

And maybe try the artifact scanner in ATITool to see what that says.

Good luck! :O

but wouldnt furmark pick that up after running for 35mins? It stress's the gpu a lot more than fallout 3 and crysis :( i have reinstalled the gpu with new drivers etc so hopefully it will be okay. gunna go play bfbc2 all today.. just to stress test the gpu you understand... not cause i enjoy it .. :P

sorry for late reply..
Ive jjst run a OCCT gpu stress test and it picked up NO errors. it must have just been coincidence... but if i use AMD overdrive to Auto overclock it... it does get errors... i thought overdrive was supposed to safely overclock it :P tut tut. least its working lol

Is it now running all the games you listed before without errors?

fallout 3 crashs..but it allways has -_- lol and BFBC2 is the same but once again that has a histoy of crashing too! but its more program based rather than hardware based..if that makes sense! i honestly think i was worrying eay to much :) I havnt played many otehr games aint had time really but with No errors showing..im guessing its all working now :)

im using the latest drivers and windows 7 64bit :)
