Hello guys, I was wondering guys if you could help me. There ain't many guides on google on overclockings the i7 860 so I thought ill come to you guys :)

At the moment, I have it running happily on my Asus formular 3 @3.4ghz... I'm wanting to go past that, but I would like to know what sort of voltages should I be looking at to reach 3.8-4ghz?

Any help please lads? :D

I have an i5 750 which is similar to i7 860 besides it doesn't have a HT and its multiplier is lowered by 1.

First of all, you want to disable Turbo mode to achieve this clock. Your memory multi should be set to 4/8. QPI to 16/32. BCLK to 200. VTT/IMC to 1.2-1.21V. CPU multi to 19 (if you find it stable, you'll move it up by 1). Manually adjust memory timings to whatever they are rated (CL9 I guess). Set the DRAM voltage to 1.65V (or 1.64V if you have not this option). Try 1.3V on CPU and run IBT 20 @ max RAM. Keep an eye on voltage drops, if they are high, turn on LLC and start testing from 1.25V.

IntelBurnTest, a software developed to make running Linpack easier :) Linpack is also used in OCCT and LinX.

For small steps testing I'd stick to 15-20 loops of IBT with max ram used and one to two hours of prime95. It doesn't mean the overclock is stable but it should tell you that it's far from crashing randomly. IBT puts much more stress on CPU thus you can find any errors quicker than using prime95 but the second stresses your system over time and the RAM usage is actually more efficient therefore you stick to both tests to be sure it's rock stable ;) And 3DMark runs in between to be sure PCI on-die controller is doing fine.

If you plan to overclock your RAM over its rated spec. though, you will need to do some Memtest85+ tests as well :)
