the email I got from them is below I have starred out my name (it had my personal name!!!) and my email. does anyone have any idea how on earth they could have got it?

Hi *******
Use the automatic Friend Finder for ***@***.***. Now it will be easier than ever to share and connect with your friends.

Use our Friend Finder to find your email contacts on Facebook

Those emails have nothing to do with Facebook. That is another spammer altogether. I get them at my work email and it is definitely not the one I have registered with FB, never has been.

Someone could have had you on their email account, then used the feature on Facebook where one puts in one's email address and password, then Facebook emails all the contacts in said email amount.

This. If someone tries to search for you on facebook they will put in your name + email and if you arent registered they have the option to send you an invite or something

ah ok thanks a lot for the speedy replies. I will have to find a way to get removed from their mailing list.

for a moment there I was starting to think my isp had been flogging my details!

thanks guys

My god this happened to me too... just block anything that mentions Failbook in the subject now wish the stupid thing was never invented.

thats not facebook, its some spam service trying to get your details, I get them to all my emails, and some people don't even know them.

It's so cool to not be on Facebook.

Weird pervasive attitude that seems to be creeping in here.

I'm not a member of Facebook, not because I think it's cool but because I genuinely find the status updates/apps irritating. I'm also not comfortable with my life and entire social network being represented in a virtual sense.

This is not to do with Facebook per se, this is personal preference dependent on how I choose to spend my time and how I choose to be represented on the internet.

I just had a lightbulb moment. I have a Facebook account but never really use it. I don't know why I signed up in the first place.

So I just deleted it - I know there never used to be a way to do it, the only thing one could do was to deactivate it but now they've made it possible to remove an account completely.

That's that done then :)
