Just trying to decide on the graphics set-up for my new PC and wondered if people have an opinion on this.

My main concern is with stability as I can work out the cost/FPS pros and cons from reviews etc. Am I more likely to have problems with the two cards crossfired or with the single 5970 which I hear has some driver issues too?

Appreciate any help.

2 5850s, better value for money.

There doesn't seem to be any issues with either set up only value for money.

5850's in crossfire get my vote

Like kylew said, its better value for your money. You save over £100 and the 5850's offer better performance over a single 5970, but only just. However, you can simply overclock the 5850's to 5870's speed, so your cards would be like running 5870's in crossfire.

Thats if, you need the extra power depending on what rez your running at.

I would wait for the asus 5850's as they offer 3 year warrenty and have an unlocked bios, so you can overclock up to 1ghz core, where as XFX, Sapphire etc are locked to a certain overclock which is 775/1125.

Deffo go for this.

Asus not in stock anywhere and not likely to be soon.

So assuming I want these within a week, which should I go for. Is the PCS+ ok?

Wouldn't be my choice, non-ref board, so no flashing of the bios, if that's your bag.

What's the best 5850s to get then? Which ones will have the unlocked BIOS? I've been looking into an upgrade soon. Does anyone have any idea when the Asus ones will be coming back into stock?

Asus and MSI as far as I know.

ASUS and MSI both come with unlocked BIOS and overvoltage tweaking tools. Most of these cards will reach 975core/1200mem or higher, and still offically retain warranty..
