Hi Folks,

I want to start paying for my postage on line and have seen that it can be done through Paypal which is what my company uses to process payments.

I have a printer that I use for invoices/ receipts and want to use it to print out postage labels too. However, it is in inkjet printer and I have been reading that you really need a laser printer to print on to labels to make sure the print does not smudge etc.

Is it possible for me to print a postage label on a piece of paper and put it into one of these clear envelopes on front of my packages?

I have some already that are big enough for the label however my only concern is that they have a part on the label that looks like it needs to be scanned, will a plastic envelope get in the way?

What are my options as at the moment I can't afford to buy another printer.

Yes. This is what most people do anyway.

I thought most people would print them directly onto a sticky label. I have seen items delivered with the address/ invoice in a clear envelope (ocuk do it sometimes) but they always have the postage on a sticky label and not in the clear envelope.

Am I safe to assume they are ok? I don't want to send orders out only for them to not get delivered as I work on a next day despatch and send at post office but don't want to have to queue up any more just to send one thing.

you should get a label printer not a laser printer. There about 80 pounds and do not require ink or toner.

Hi,

This doesn't answer my question though. Can I used a postage label printed onto paper and put into a plastic envelope? If I can then I don't need to waste any money on a label printer etc.

If I can't then I will look into my other options then.

Thanks

I have never received one like this, normlly the address is in there, but the actual postage label is physically stuck onto the package. I would advise going into the post office showing them an example. Then go to another ane get a second opinion!

Hi,

Does any one here send packages like this or know if it works? I might have a look into label printers/ laser printers but this solution would be ideal.

Whenever I sell on eBay I use PayPal to print postage labels with Royal Mail and just use a normal printer and tape the label on to the front. Never had a problem.

Yes, it works, I've received loads of mail with those clear wallets stuck on them, and inside would be a folded piece of A4 paper with my address printed on it.
I've also sent out loads of stuff with just the folded A4 printed address taped to the item using clear tape to waterproof it and have not had a problem yet.

I also splashed out on a label printer, the Dymo printer has great hardware but the software sucks like a dyson in a black hole.

Ahh, after re-reading the thread I am confused as to whether you are referring to the actual postage impression or the address of the receiver.

Hi,

It's not the address that's the problem, it's the paid postage and the area that looks like it needs to be scanned and whether or not this works through the clear envelopes.

It's the postage impression you are referring to..right.. In which case I've never sent nor received one that way either at home or work.

This.
Suppose you could put some sticky back plastic over it if you're really paranoid about it getting smudged.
It should be fine in one of those clear wallets too.
