A family member has been had by an auction site, they received what they thought was a legit email from paypal saying the payment was in their account blah blah, but without actually checking to see if the money was actually in the account they posted the item.

Item value was approximately £150.

I doubt there is but what are the options / chances of getting the money back?

Please don't bother replying unless its something helpful, I am not interested in the "he should know better" replies.

Sorry should have said in OP it was posted to Nigeria

I know I know, not all people know the internet that well, it's a generation gap.

...

People really need to be educated better about how to use the internet, stuff like this just keeps the scammers going :(

Idiots. Close thread.

You are bound to get replies like that, it's just how people are.

As I said above though, as you've sent an item to them there's no guarantee you can prove its worth as far as I am aware, so Paypal etc are not going to pay out when for example, you didn't even send the item?

The fraud department of Ebay/Paypal probably get thousands of these per day and there's probably very little they can do :(
