Hello guys,

I've received 2 emails from '[email protected]' over the past week now. My Warcraft account is frozen and has not been used for a good 5-6 months. Are these genuine emails or scammers?

A request for a new password for this World of Warcraft Account has been received. Please follow this link to choose your new password:

<link to an address which looks 100% legit>

For the continued security of the account, we recommend that you take the following steps prior to logging in to your account:

- Scan the computer system you are using to remove all viruses, Trojan files, and key loggers.

- Log in to your Account Management page at https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account

- Maintain safe Internet practices and safeguard all World of Warcraft account information for the most secure gaming experience.

Thank you for contacting Blizzard Entertainment!

Ignore it? I'd suggest that you're being phished. I'd delete the e-mail and log in manually using the correct URL's rather than clicking on something in an e-mail.

Thats what I did when I got the first email. I went to their proper website and actually changed my password to be sure.

I get one of these emails from various addresses on a daily basis now. Not used my wow account for about a year so just ignore them.

They usually look like your email but yesterday I got a different one. I am at work so can't post the mail but it basically went that due to all the phising emails going about blizzard were increasing their security and to in order to keep my account active I would need to log in to a provided link which would give me extra security from account hacking. lol

I have no plans on ever going back to my account so never bother wih the mails I get, however if you do i would just go to the actual offical site and log in without trusting any mails you get.

Just a phishing email.

If you hover your cursor over the address link and look at the actual address that it will go to at the bottom of your browser you will see that its a false address, usually something like www.warcraftaccounting.info or some such.

Part of the reason why these things are so successful is because people dont look at what it is they are clicking on, see the false address in the email and just blindly click on it.

I get approximately 4 phishing emails a day, and I've not played for a year now.
Some are better and more believable than others.

Unfortunately, people manage to get hold of email addresses for MMO players (either forums or help sites that close up or just through randomness or trawling)

Ignore it, and train your email protection to automatically delete these scams on sight, will save a lot of wear on your Delete button.

Most likely fake, like most others here i get a few day and havent played in a year or so. They are just blanket phishing emails as even people without the game are getting them.

These guys are getting damn convincing!

Here is an email i received:

I've gotten loads of these recently, not played the game for ages though. Best one was one with a subject title of "Blizzard Account Email Verification - Action Required" and the body of the email was:

Hotmail is redefining busy with tools for the New Busy.

Its fake, you dont choose a new password via email anyway. When you change your password you have to enter the old one and the new one on the same page, not wait for an email confirmation.

Blizzard will NEVER ask you for your password!

90% of these are easy to spot as scams because the addresses and phone numbers listed are all for US accounts and not EU ones...

It's pretty funny, I got 1 from "Blizzard" claiming that someone had changed my "AION" account details. I thought AION was from NCSoft? :D

Some scammers really aren't the most clever people in the world.

Here's another 1, the English makes me lol
Greetings!

I've been recently getting a lot emails from apparently Blizzard about my password being changed etc even thought I stopped playing the game over 1 year ago. These emails are nothing else but scams. Be warned.

For goodness sake dont post links to the sites here, who knows wether they have keyloggers or not. Did you give it any thought?

I know most have made up URLS but one of the links above goes to a phishing site designed to steal your details. Some people might think "oh i wonder what these sites look like so i can make myself aware" or something equally as silly and then finding themselves with a nice keylogger :/

fake...

I keep getting random bank onces oddly enough I don't bank with the company in question......dumbasses
