Ok, well is anyone going to uni in portsmouth and are they hopign for accomodation. Ive heard that only 50% are getting accomodation first year.. and we cant choose our flats now.

 had no problem with accommodation when I went, James Watson Halls were a bit dodgy as they were still doing buildng work on them and kept hitting the water pipe.

Rees Hall all the way. Room 444

The food is god awful, but you are on the sea front, "nice" view over to the Isle White, if you get a sea view room there is a good chance there will be a double bed in there too. Kev's Kitchen burger van is outside (try the chicken burger ... it is divine).

I went back in 2001 and it was only the clearing people that I knew who didn't get a place in Halls.

Just a shame you'll never get to experience the old union. I was there for the last year of the old union and the first 2 of the new. The new union was ok, but I hear it's gone down hill now. No stage in Lux, one crappy long bar urgh. The old union was immense. Dirty but fun.

Where did you stay Mac?

They should try and accommodate everyone to where they want to stay. Normally you make a choice of 3 in preference, but the earlier you get your response back the better.

Nothing like a bit of flooding and not being able to wash for a few days, or use water for cooking or drinking. Aside from that James Watson wasn't bad at all.

I was in James watson D-515 was really nice, but as I said, they kept damaging the water pipes and cutting the water supply, this was 2005 while they were building the purple door underneath

When I was there Margaret Rule sewage system got backed up and poop started coming through the drains in the showers and sinks. ewwwww

those were the days ;)
oh and having to plan your toilet trips, being able to only flush once for the day till they turn the water back on, that was a fun experience :p

Ah yeah James Watson was the one opposite Route wasn't it? That was massive. We were always jealous of people who lived right in town, but our halls at the time was the nicest as there was something special about being right on the seafront.

They were indeed opposite route, and fun to play some evening games watching people getting kicked out of Bar:me, counting police vans etc hehe

Yep opposite Route and Bar:Me but you could guarantee at least once a week the police would be there turfing people out and closing the place down by 11pm.

The only bonus about not having water that week was the tenner a day we got, at least that provided something towards a night out!

I remember in our flat we had a girl who we saw on the first night everyone was there, was a bit loud and larey and then we practically didn't see her again until the last day before we moved out cos she kept all to herself. Weirdness.

except for the nights I heard her arguing on the phone to her boyfriend and crying...a lot! it just came through the bathroom pipes and echoed round the room :/

We had a guy that left after the first week because we intimidated him with the 1st day of our indoor cricket championship in our corridor (England VS Pakistan). We invited him to play and he did, all seemed fine, next day we got a note through the door saying his mum was picking up and he was going home saying the cricket had be the final straw.

The day was spent playing "I don't like cricket ... oh no ... I love it" very loudly

rofl!

We had one who was obsessed with britney spears, and cut out a picture of her and pinned it up on the kitchen noticeboard.
out came my indian ink and I gothed her up nicely, the girl went pretty spaz about it too :p

I was on Computer Games Technology, Ciba did Internet Technology though, were you in Anglesea building then?

I had the pleasuer of Mercentile, the most depressing looking structure going :p

Wow another ITB!

There was only about 10 people on my course and two of them disappeared by the time we graduated.

Ahh I was literally just about to put porto as my insurance.. Don't think I will now.

it's actually pretty cool for a student place to go, I'd reccommend it, everything is easily within walking distance, and even drunk walking distance ;)

Thats why I want to go, but I really want halls for the first year, and don't fancy my chances, especially with it being insurance.

well, just keep trying, be persistant, some people will either drop out soon after, or some will just not get in at all, so it's definitely worth applying, regardless of how slim you think your chances are at getting into halls, Hary Law and the other really scabby places usually have a few going at the start of the term
