The Great Big OCUK Blood Drive \o/

I am in the 'keep meaning to do it' category. I will make a public pledge to give blood as soon as my son has had his tonsils out (this Thursday unless they cancel it again).

In which case the Blood service are killing children as they refuse to take mine. Damn them! How can you support such a bunch of child murderes!!

This. Due to having a blood transfusion after a motorbike accident.

Bet it's a different story when they're begging my family for my organs. They can get stuffed.

In a previous post I put that my date for donation was the 7th but its actually the 8th, I'm feeling a little anxious but glad I'm doing it!

Well the risk of having less blood in reserve is slightly less important than not having a liver.

Got an apponintment booked in work at 2pm Friday.

I might do this. How does it feel?
Fine, the finger-***** anemia test hurts more. You might feel a bit of a scratch or discomfort when they insert the needle but the actual process is totally painless. I've given blood about a half dozen times and only felt a bit odd once, probably hadn't dunk enough fluid during the day.

Spice things up a bit... ask the nurse/technician how long it took for your donation. Quickest wins an e-cookie.

Somebody posted a similar thread a while ago and it catapulted me into action. I've donated one pint so far and will be doing so again soon. :D

I'm A- in case anybody is interested. :s

Unless they twist it in the vein (they did with my gf as the vein was small and flow wasnt constant) which caused enough pain to make her pass out :/

I've been giving blood now for years. It's no problem at all really. My dad (who's been donating blood since he was my age pretty much) and I are the only ones in our family who can give blood though.
Everybody saying the anemia test hurts more, this doesn't seem the same in my case! I find this easy, I hardly feel it in fact. I find the larger needle to take the blood slightly worse (that's not to say it's agony or anything!). I haven't got problems with needles or anything, I just can't really watch as it goes in the vein for some reason. It hasn't stopped me giving blood though! :)

How often are you allowed to do this?

Do you have to leave a month between donating?
I think it might be 3 months, but I can't find the bumf

I donated for the first time about a month ago, was unreasonably nervous about it, but it was all fine. I've also registered as an organ donor in the last year. I don't see why anyone wouldnt
