wow the earths crust has been busy today!

GLOBAL WARMING!!"!! SAVE TH ERAINFORESTS OBAMA IS A NAZI NICK GRIFFIN HUR !

On a serious note: Damn, that is a lot of earthquakes. However, due to the logarithmic scale of it, they're all pretty minute. A magnitude 6 earthquake ISN'T twice as powerful as a 3 quake, it's 1000 times as powerful, so, that 5.9 magnitude quake is actually less than 1/10 of the power of the Haiti quake.

Still nothing to sniff at, though.

Richter scale

The Richter magnitude scale was developed in 1935 by Charles F. Richter of the California Institute of Technology as a mathematical device to compare the size of earthquakes. The magnitude of an earthquake is determined from the logarithm of the amplitude of waves recorded by seismographs. Adjustments are included for the variation in the distance between the various seismographs and the epicenter of the earthquakes. On the Richter Scale, magnitude is expressed in whole numbers and decimal fractions. For example, a magnitude 5.3 might be computed for a moderate earthquake, and a strong earthquake might be rated as magnitude 6.3. Because of the logarithmic basis of the scale, each whole number increase in magnitude represents a tenfold increase in measured amplitude; as an estimate of energy, each whole number step in the magnitude scale corresponds to the release of about 31 times more energy than the amount associated with the preceding whole number value.

Guess looking at that chart we can safely assume that California is going to be ****ed at some point with a huge earthquake...

/me crosses California off my list of next holiday destination:p

OMG STOCKPILE BEANS'N'SAUSAGES+TEABAGS!

On a more serious note, seems pretty interesting. I see 2012 has already been mentioned though :(

"GEOMAGNETIC STORM: A sharp gust of solar wind hit Earth's magnetosphere today, April 5th, at approximately 0800 UT and sparked the strongest geomagnetic storm of the year (Kindex=7). Although the storm is subsiding now, it is not over. High-latitude sky watchers should remain alert for auroras." www.spaceweather.com

Is there any link between solar activity and earthquakes?
