Hellooooo

Well I'm never gonna get into the MM unless I start posts like this, so here goes :). Here's my situation: been out of PC gaming for a good few years now for various reasons including serious ones like marriage and house renovation :). Stopped at around HL2 with my current rig - Athlon 64 3700, 2GB, GF 6800 PRO. Was awesome.

Would really like to update the rig and play some PC games again - see what this Crysis fuss is all about etc etc. In fact the reason I joined here was to get up to speed on hardware etc. Looking at an overclocked i5 build with an ati 5 series I reckon.

However, in the meantime I've picked up a PS3 and a Wii for some GTA IV, GH, GT5 etc etc. Only thing is, this is currently running on my ancient 28" SD CRT TV :(. GTA IV doesn't look much better than the PS2 games on this!

For about the same money as the proposed PC build, I could get a nice 42" Plasma TV - Panasonic G10/G20 and properly max out the PS3 experience. Also get into some blu rays too.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??

So what would you guys do - TV or PC? What do you think I'd get most enjoyment from?

Cheers,

Liam

I've got a 50" plasma in the livingroom hooked up to a PS3 and a Wii, both currently collecting dust, my PC on the other hand I use every day for gaming :) I much prefer gaming on the PC in my own office, but its a personal thing I guess, if like me you do get a new TV, I can guarantee you wont be able to get on the PS3 as the missus will be watching god knows whatever chick program she's into this week...

As shadowake rightly points out, getting a big tv just for the mrs to plonk herself in front of is not a great idea :(

PC F.T.W and let "her indoors" suffer with the old CRT :D

LOL - could have a point. I also really enjoy the building aspect of puting together a PC.

Hmmmm wonder what would happen if I ask this in the console section :)...

Good question,I would get a good lcd/plasma then think about getting a better computer this is what i have done,Last january i bought a "42" plasma i thought it was about time to get away from a crt,So this year its time to get a nice new pc.

I guess both will be done eventually. Whatever I don't do now will have to wait about a year though. So really it's what do I do first? Going slightly towards the PC though, which was the original plan.

Imagine this,

Option 1: Woman, nice big lcd screen, remote control in hand with a sneaky grin on her face!

Or Option 2: Woman in front room, watching some chickflick bilge which neither requires or deserves a decent LCD (plasma, led) screen,

whilst you play your favorite games (or surf the OcUK forums ) at a nice high resolution in your office.

What's it to be Liampope? only you can decide :D

LOL - you could be right! Mrs is currently happy with laptop iplayer and gaming on her nokia-something-or-other, but that depicted above could well become reality if I went for option 1. Option 2 looks much safer (but what if she hears about Farmville or something?).

But on the other hand longe TV has my hifi/speakers and 42" of plasma is sure to improve my GH5 rock god skills. Hmmmm...

a vote for LCD TV (plasma too hot, expensive to run and not very good if you later decide to go for a media centre PC).... Your PS3 deserves the opportunity to impress - blue ray is also pretty impressive on a true 1080P HD.

This is a hard one lol hmm.. I would say it would depend on what spec pc you would build, If it was me I would go tv with a decent av receiver and 5.1 speakers xD ohh and a bluray player but that's because i love music n watching movies lol

Come on you still dont belive they run hot yes the older plasma tv's ran really hot,My plasma doesn't make the electric bill any higher,The only thing i can agree on is a plasma is not good if you are a hardcore gamer as you can get screen burn,But even then its not a problem like it use to be.

Plasma i would say is better than a lcd for watching tv,Lcd tv's are so much brighter just isn't real where a plasma is as real you can get when it comes to colours.

Just my thought :)

In my house we have a plasma and a lcd, I think the plasma is better

Plasmas are better than LCD for just about any use. The only reason folk bought LCDs instead of plasmas was LCDs were much cheaper... you could get LCD's for a few hundred, when Plasmas were the wrong side of a grand. Now though, you can get excellent plasma sets for less than £500 and are more than comparable in price to equivalent LCDs. No exuse not to get a plasma these days.
