Why does Google ruin good things?

First it started with the pointless oversized search box and 'Set your location' in YoutTube, then the annoying fade in. Next came the new frankly poo YouTube video play page change and now the Google.com search result page with some modifications to the mail page. Frankly, none of these changes needed to be made since Google/YouTube were near perfect.

just because the best service gets slightly worse, it doesn't mean that using the considerably worse services is warranted.
