My machine went Fizzle and stopped. Won't reboot.

Eliminated PSU from equation (works fine with other machine)
Can't check RAM as other machines are DDR2
Can't check CPU or Mobo as others are S775 and this is S1156

Anyone in Herts (I'm in St Albans) who is able to assist as I cannot RMA both CPU and Mobo (different vendors) as one is gonna work and I'll get charged :(

Or any other bright ideas how to check whats the faulty component?

most of the time is mobo problem, unlikely processor problem. but won't reboot could caused by faulty PSU, Ram and graphic card as well not always processor or mobo.

yeah, swapped out PSU and put a working one in. No boot. Put the "suspect" PSU into other system and boots fine. Hence PSU is OK

Can you remove all but 1 stick of RAM and swap it around to see if that could be the problem?

And when you say fizzle, what exactly happened?

Can you get as far as your bios? Maybe load defaults, or even remove cmos battery for a few minutes and replace.

any burning to be seen on the sockets pins or cpu?

any capacitors with their guts hanging out or signs of black?

None. No sign of any. It didnt "fizzle" as such, just failed to boot at all.

No, zero activity apart from one of the 4 power LEDs on the mobo flickers but then dies. I've removed CMOS for hours and no change.

does sound like something's gone pop on the motherboard.

if you do end up RMAing the board: [email protected]. dont bother going through tech support. they are frankly rubbish.

if you wanna cut out another step, then i can give you a direct email of someone who works at the RMA dept (ill put it in trust ... not sure if i should put it here).

Meth do you still need a hand, i could pop over and help you out, im going to be that way this week and i do this sort of thing for a living!! of course there wouldn't be a fee for a fellow OCer, i would just be happy to help...

add my MSN or send a message in TRUST.

Thanks for offer. Really nice but not necessary now I think

I RMA'd board #1 (collecting tomorrow) and ordered a 2nd. Can you believe I booted the 2nd and watched a small chip on it ignite as bright as an LED and smoke. Board DID boot afterwards but not stable.

RMA#2 (different supplier). Waiting for info from them.

I am beginning to wonder if Gigabyte has issues with this. I noticed they are on Rev 1.1 of this board quite early. Or maybe I've just had awful luck.

I even invested in a beefier PSU for this board AND a Corsair H50 water cooling. Maybe I should have kept my old S775 Quad instread!
