Didn't Fatboy do a " ;) " thread that turned into a dozen or so pages, that seemed to suggest they had some stock several days before the launch? Me thinks someone at Nvidia or distro keeps making promises about their shipment and someone keeps falling for it.

Considering it would seem pretty much no one in the world will be selling before the 12th, it would be odd for OCUK to be the first in the world.

Thats all ignoring the fact, what, a 470gtx, the single worst value card, pretty much ever?

Unless you have an uber water cooling system and then you might be able to get some good clocks out of it. Looking at some LN2 results, it's faster clock for clock than the 5870, so assuming you can keep it cool enough then it ought to be good value for the keen clocker.

yes cause we couldn't be buying the 470 for its ability to OWN ati in anything that has tessalation.

couldnt be were getting the 470 because it has a aa method ati doesn't which improves the sharpness of shadows.

it couldn't be that all games that ati beat nvidia in i don't give a **** about because there old and not dx11/using tessellation.

simple fact is you'll see pretty much all games in dx11 utilizing tessellation.

and that means nvidia owns ati in the gen they brought the card out for.

did i forget that nvidia makes effort to pore money into games being developed.

ohh look crysis 2 uses dx11 and nvidia is working with them.

theres more into if you need it.

dont

I just hope the GTX 470 will give some healthy FPS increase in NFS Shift ! Can't wait to install my new central heating into my machine ! Just kidding :)

You do realise the one thing it beats AMD in with tesselation, is a benchmark, in Dirt 2 Nvidia has a clear lead in dx9, that lead REDUCES MASSIVELY in DX11 with tesselation enabled. Whoops, infact of all the actual games that use tesselation the 50% more expensive 480gtx shows entirely no extra tesselation performance than the 58xx series. IF Nvidia owned AMD in REAL WORLD GAMING tesselation performance, the lead once tesselation was enabled should INCREASE not dissappear completely.

Of course, the only bad thing I actually said about the 470gtx, was about it being the worst value card ever, which NONE of what you wrote changes. INfact, I even meant its simply worse value than the 480gtx, those cards are binned to within an inch of their life. It will be incredibly rare to find a 470gtx that will clock to close to 480gtx clocks, and theres likely a tiny amount of overclocking headroom on a 480gtx.

Considering I'm expecting most of the few cards to become available to cost around £350 for a 470gtx, and £430 for a 480gtx, frankly if you've decide you HAVE to buy Nvidia the 480gtx is the one to go for, because at least the extra your paying is for the fastest card around. THe £350 for the 470gtx, for a card that slower than a 5870 in pretty much everything WITH tesselation on in games, when a 5870 also costs less, is just the worst deal ever.

We all have our own opinions on what is the best hardware out there, We all have different specs machine so it might behave differently to others. We shall have to wait and see when these cards get shipped out. I'm hardly biased as I currently own a ATI 5770 which has been a good card, But recently got the itch to cf or move to Nvidia range, So I've pre-ordered the GTX470 a while back.

nice lies in your first paragraph the massive reduction to talk about is 3 fps

being only because one ati worked with that company and two dirt 2 has very little tessalation most maps only have the tessalated people at the starting line :P

so thats im talking about games that have 10x or more tessalation.

and so you haven't read about overclocking the 480 ??? lol then dont make assumptions.

the 470 overlclocks to 720mhz 1452mhz shaders and 3568mhz

i believe this surpasses the the 480 clocks and thats done fully stable with no added voltage.

soo alian vs preditor and metro arent real games.

Looking forward to seeing some of these out in the wild. Once the inevitable price drop's occurred and a couple of driver revisions released then we'll really start to see how good or bad they are.

I paid 240 each for my 5850's, i'd pay the same for some 470s if I was in the market for new cards. With some decent cooling, (a Prolimatech MK-13?) they may stretch their legs nicely.

no i do my research before i buy :)

Errrr, no offence like but you must not be doing a very good job at it.

metro2033 anyone ....... heavly tessesalated only the 400series can put of playble fps.

O RLY?

http://hardocp.com/article/2010/04/05/metro_2033_directx_11_gameplay_performance_iq/5

In fact it's not heavy tesselation which cripples the 5 series in 2033, it's the application of 4xMSAA. The 5870 is holiding it's own against the gtx 4xx cards until then.

Without 4xMSAA but tesselation on, the gtx480 is 10% faster than a 5870 and a 5870 is 10% faster than a gtx470.

Notice even the gtx470 can't handle Metro 2033 with 4xaa and had to be dropped back to AAA.

The massive hit that the ati 5870 takes with 4xMSAA may well be down to a driver issue as it is after all another ""The Way It’s Meant To Be Played" title.

In fact, as Drunkenmaster pointed out, the Nvidia cards have no advantage in heavy tesselation games (so far).

I also agree, if you can stretch another £70 you are better off getting the GTX480 as the 470 is poor value for money IMO.
