Is it worth me getting another 5870?

I game at 1080p and like everything on, with SSAA on.

2 seem fine for most things, but Metro 2033 takes a lot out of them both.

I can run it on full in DX11 with everything on apart from that top option in DX11.

You have to remember some games are not optimised for that kinda setup so it makes hardly any diff atall for most part, some suffer some dont its one of them touch and go things.

I would wait for a few months first for the 58xx drivers to mature for crossfire. Or wait for another single card option.

2x 5870's cant run metro at MAX with great fps??.. Like the guy above says wait for newer drivers. That really doesnt sound right :9 trifire wont get you much more fps on MAX. trifire is more aimed at eyefinity/high res gaming rather than full HD gaming. :( dont go spending out £300 just yet :)

a 5970 oc'd to 5870 speeds runs metro fine @ 1920x1200 maxed out

trifire works fine for SINGLE monitor configs

trifore/quadfire still doesn't work with eyefinity

I have a 5970/5980 crossfire at stock and it's overkill./ BFBC2 gets 200fps (capped) in some places with full graphics AA and AF. Not worth spending the money at this time imo.

If 2x 5870's cannot run things at max settings you may well be bumping into physical memory capacity issues. Adding a third card may be pointless (IMHO completely pointless for issues with just one game)

trifire/quadfire works fine for a single monitor.. but a card like 5870 i very much doubt you would see much diffrence going from a crossfire to trifire even on a 1920x1200 monitor. ..well going from all the benchmarks ive seen and theres been a lot!

yeah, i stated it worked fine for a single ;)

i have 5970+5870, and the difference between just the 5970 and 5970+5870 is pretty damn good imo. BUT the reason i got both is for eyefinity, as obviously with that big-a res it's going to end up chugging, especially with AA added.

I must be doing something wrong then as I don't get 200 fps anywhere (5970+5870) with 4 x aa (10.3 drivers) and my i7 920 at 4 ghz.

Please explain.

only reason i ask is the cards maybe thottling, but unlikely in your situation (pending you have good case air flow)

No mate, heat is defo not a problem (the massive coolermaster cosmos 1000) 5970 reaches 80c whilst gaming and the 5870 about 67c. I'm using the ASUS P6TD mobo and there is a big gap between the cards

What drivers are you using?

ahh fair enough.

i'm on the openGL 4.0 ones (think it's still 10.3)

also, i don't have bc2, but i get pretty consistently high fps in games like metro 2033, maxed apart from depth of field off.
