Wierd question of the day - as usual inspired by 'at work chatting' conversation..

If you had the option to take a pill, which meant both of the below:

1) You never needed to eat or drink again, you were never hungry or thirsty and maintained a healthy weight

2) Side-effect of pill: You never could enjoy food or drink again, your body had bad maybe fatal allergic reaction if food or drink was ever consumed again by yourself.

Would you swallow the pill?

Me - yup, to be honest, needing to eat 3 times a day is one big pain in the neck - think about all the hassle and money spent food shopping, of altering your life each and every day to fit food in. To cook it, to clean up. The grief! I'd swallow the pill.

However most people at work wouldn't (not least because they like beer!). What say you?

It's an odd one, all the money you'd save on not buying food/cooking equipment, bog roll, cleaning the toilet.

You'd have so much more time from not performing all these activities, you'd cut down on waste and packaging/rubbish, be more environmentally friendly.

You could find other means of elevating your mental status, natural highs etc

but really, a nice roast dinner covered in gravy is unparalleled :p

Eating and drinking can be an occassion and a social gathering - why remove that possibility? Plus the ability to taste is one of the greatest pleasures :p

Eating is one of Life's great pleasures. without the ability to eat, the enjoyment possibilities of life would be substantially lessened.

Could you imagine the class of people you could create, a Workforce that would never need meal breaks or an army that could march forever if you dope them up enough.
Would the not eating people be viewed as better or worse off ?

Taking into account the small fact that you would die if you took the pill, my answer has to be no. :)

Not a chance, there are far too many wonderful foods and drinks that I enjoy wasting hours away socialising and consuming at the same time.

Where I'd be without a good red wine I have no idea.
