Basically I've had enough of my phone and my service provider known as Vodafone. I currently have the N97 and all I can say is what a bitter disappointment! It's awful! Turns itself on and off whenever it feels like it! Freezes up for no reason. So damn slow and half it's features require you to sign up for something or is just useless. Anyway the point is that I want out of my contract or at least want a new phone. Vodafone themselves are ok I mean their customer service is no worse than other service providers. Also when my phone broke they were prompt in sending a replacement. I like my plan as well 600 mins, unlimited texts and internet for £35/month. The only thing that annoys me is the signal is very pants at times, despite them saying that they gaurentee a connection in your home (Quite rare to be fair) Now to the point I want to change my phone and preferably my provider however I can live with them for now. My contract is 18months and I have had the phone for 8 months so there is 10 left at least. My eyes are either on an iphone or Blackberry bold 9700, the only thing is I don't really want to go and buy either of them becasue of the price tag. My serivce provider says I'm not eligble for an upgrade but they will buy my phone off of me for £150 and give me £50 credit for 6 month extension on my contract. Now I'm not really on the whole £50 credit for 6 months. I don't know really what I should do. Any suggestions? Or thoughts on the Blackberry or iPhone? Thanks in advance.

I have a blackberry with Orange, which unfortunately I have something like another year of the contract to go :( Signal strength is often poor, I cannot makes phone calls sitting at my desk at work and it is the same in my girlfriends flat.

As for the blackberry itself, I personally don't think it is that great. Go with the iphone, you won't be disappointed.

I had enough of my N97, had 4 replacement handsets, on the 4th brand new one, I sold it for £250, used an old £10 phone for that contract and aqquired a new iPhone 3GS 32gb through work, much much better

My phone is just beyond annyoing now. I've looked on some trade in websites and they're saying like £150 for it. Which isn't too bad for s***. Still need a new phone for 10 months or buy out my contract :S If I was to buy out my contract do you think that they would cut down the final price or just calculate it on £35 a month (Plus possible admin fees and crap)?

I was in a similar position to you, but I was with T-Mobile. The touchscreen on my N97 broke, but I managed to get about £200 from one of those recycling websites.

I also phoned T-Mobile up, because I literally couldn't get signal anywhere. I explained the situation, and they could see that I barely used any minutes or texts, and agreed to reduce the cost of my contract from £35 a month to £15 a month, which I thought was pretty good of them. Luckily, the 200 quid I got from selling the phone covered the cost of the rest of the contract :)

Best thing to do is month by month reduce the tarrif to the lowest possible, then once achieved, if you no longer want the contract, pay it off (it will be the remaining months on the contract @ tarrif price).

if your getting rid of the phone, sell it private (on ebay or someone you know) you will get a lot more for it than these trade websites.

Might help to know that if your phone breaks three times, youre elegible to a replacement, be it same, or different phone.

Breaking can be random crashes every now and then (once every few days..??).. if u get my jist - something they cant replicate.

They'll reinstall your phones firmware, tell em it happened again, strike 3 demand a new phone.

From past experience they will fight as much as possible to give you a lower spec phone.

What I might try and do is sell my phone on ebay or something and whatever I make from it put it towards the contract and see how much more I would have to cover for the costs of the contract. Providing that the cost is not too high then just pay the rest off. Thus rendering a new phone. Still not sure what phone to ge though.

You probably dont want to hear this, but I used to hate the thought of owning the iPhone, I despised them and everything to do with them, after owning a Nokia N97 and hating that, I obtained this iPhone 3gs through work and I must say I am pleased with it, the OS is brilliant and snappy, never had a single problem with it. The new OS will be out soon too.

The thing that's bugging me is what is so special about iPhones? I mean I know that the app store is one of those that are great. However what else is there that makes it great? This isn't a moan it's just a question from someone completely baffled?

App store for one and the fact that its bloody easy to just pick up and use...hell my 6 yr old nephew uses my sis in laws iphone 3G pretty easily...other than that its a great multimedia device..not so great at communication but its not the worst at it either.

Depends on what you want your phone to do in all honesty....im waiting for hte new iphone myself and see what that brings to the table but im really looking at the new HTC Desire Android handset as that looks very good and so far reviews of it are pretty favourable.

The OS is a big winner for me, very good, so fast and snappy, never crashes, the availablility of applications is staggering, the touch screen is awsome, the screen size is pefect, GPS is good, mine locks on within about 3-5 seconds and never looses its signal, its an attractive phone, the web browser is good and responsive and never crashes (something I seem to have problems with on other phones), wifi adaptor inside has a really good range).

Only downsides I can think of at the moment is the battery and no availability of a flash, the new OS will provide some more features.

I have heard people talking about problems with iphones dropping calls all the time, I cant say iv experienced any issues with mine with regards to dropping calls/no or low signal, and I use mine quite a lot.

Guess it depends on where you are...my bro has the iphone 3gs and he loves it other than the rubbish battery life and next to no signal he gets in flat in Canary Wharf...saying that even my 9700 on Tmobile struggles to get reception in his flat.
