Love it.

330d last issue was to do with the dash instruments going wild. well that was quickly sorted after a lengthy disconnect from battery.

now, instruments have decided to not work at all!
So, no revs, no speedo, fuel gage, indicator lights or informational lights.

great!

garage getting lots of communication errors apparently, seems my electrics are a bit shot then!
should be an interesting bill. full investigation results should be given tomorrow.

oh and for the fun of it, another injector has gone - 3 down 3 to go!

The speedo thing is common on the E39 as well. Happens about once a year and is fixed by disconnecting the battery for a bit.

As for the injectors, par for the course on a commonrail turbodiesel like this.

yeah, battery disconnect works for a while, but then it goes again. gets boring after a while so getting it looked at :(

indeed on the injectors, will get this one replaced and expect the rest to go before end of year lol.

theres a 330i for sale up the road, given my miles have significantly dropped lately i might go have a look!

Owned my 330ci for a year now and never had a single problem with it. Where I work I am constantly getting requests for parts on the 330d's.

Dont think I would want to run a modern diesel that wasnt under warranty. Some of the prices on injectors/pumps/exhaust filters are scary.

yeah, injectors can be crazy prices brand new (around £300 i think!). can get them cheaper though if you have people in the trade

If you can reset it by disconnecting the battery i would do this, and sell the car. Explain the issue to the buyer, citing that you just need to pull the battery every now and again and its a very common issue - ala fox's description above.

Doubt it will really put anybody off, leaving you free to buy a 330 with the correct engine this time :)

problem is im also considering a touring lol. just need to go drive the petrol and remind myself why its better than the diesel, then the variant of car can be decided later!

you shouldn't need reminding  :p

I actually like the shape of the current touring

To throw a fly in the ointment, my old mans 260k+ mile e39 has never has this issue.....

Software been reset, guess that means the map has gone also.
injector 6 is not giving good readings, they going to do a cold cylinder test in the morning or something to see if more needs to be done, doubtful though.

That would massively put me off. "Don't worry if the instruments fail - you just need to disconnect the battery for while".

I'd walk away after you said "need".

Most people buying a 'cheap beema innit' are only interested in whether the wheels are 'proper bling' or not, so they probably wouldnt care.

I don't keep tabs on what type / age of car all the forum members drive, so I've no idea how old / cheap this car is.

2001
not worth much these days, especially if you tell them to resolve issues like that by disconnecting the battery lol

You wouldnt buy the car then, the next man will. See Fox's post.
