Chaps,

What are your thoughts on replica wheels?

I ask this as I would love a set of BBS LM's for the S3 but I can't justify spending 3/4s of the cars value on a set of wheels!

From what I gather there is not a lot of weight difference between the 2 but I presume the manufacturing quality is worlds apart.

If you buy used BBS LM's you'll get all your money back when you get rid of the car, provided you keep the originals obviously.

It's what I intend to do if I go for a 335i, given that all the stock wheels are crap.

That way you get the benefit of a genuine set of wheels but you can always get your money back on them.

i have a completely irrational total dislike for knock-off wheels. in the "VW scene" knock off LMs are common as muck, on awful cars and in terrible condition. years ago LMs were epic wheels because of their status/rarity, so to add to the case against knock offs, they actually detract from the rarity and status of a good product.

i could never bring myself to buy knock off wheels for my car

Easy tiger.

The reason LM's are popular is because they look awesome, hence the demand for replicas that don't cost and arm and a leg.

Yet if I posted pictures of my S3 with genuine LM's, no doubt you would be frothing at the mouth with excitement, yet to the eye they look very similar!

Point taken in that ultimately, yes they are replicas so won't be a patch on the real thing.

but there are so common. why would you want to mod your car to look the same as SO many that youll see and an audi/vag show?

id spend the money else where, get a few photochops done and consider some other wheels on there. you may not have to fork out for knock offs and you wont end up with a car thats a clone of everythign else on audi-sport

Personally, I want a set of BBS CHs on mine. Or some Sportec Monos. Or some MTM Bimotos. Shame they're all so bloody expensive!

For an S3 I think CH's like the ones on the Mk5 GTI Ed30 would suit a lot better. LM's look awesome on big BMW's but I don't think they suit hatchbacks.

The way I see it, apart from going to Audi shows etc how many S3s do you see with LM's on a daily basis? Not enough to call it common I don't think.

Edit : What other wheels would you recommend, I am after 18" ideally.

MTM wheels are awesome but as you say, the price is unreal.

LPSIII have you got any pictures of your S3 and where do you get it serviced?

LM's do look good.. but if you buy them get genuine BBS wheels.. as some said the resale value will be high.. depends on the condition really.. you will get your money back..

I think there are some pics floating about. I'll see if I can dig them out.

For the actual services I get it done at WVC in Weybridge just so I can have Audi Specialist stamps in the service history. All the other work that I can't do myself gets done at a local garage who I've been using for years.

i see two A3s on knock off LMs daily, one of those A3s is dressed up to be an S3, but then i do live in essex and no one has any taste here. probably explains why i see so many LMs.

there must be some other slightly more original ideas you could come up with. ed30 wheels would be a good start... what about different, in terms of polished TT rims?

Damn you and your leather armrest, I want one :(

18" RSTTs are another option, maybe in black/anthracite.

Really not keen on the TT Comps

with RS4 rims, again youd be shelling out for something that wont really make your car stand out at all. id sooner keep the OE ones

mk4 golf anni rims?

The RSTTs really suit the S3 but as you say hardly makes you stand out. Depends if you want to stand out I guess?

I've always thought the R32s look great on the golf and terrible on the A3/S3. Just my personal opinion though!

My car is yellow, I have no choice but to stand out like a saw thumb.

I just think this looks awesome:
