Opinions on replica wheels?

LM's rock. They suit so many cars because of the design. I'd love a set for my MR2. They crop up loads on Yahoo auctions Japan. Just shipping them over here would cost an arm and a leg!

Try and get some originals. Original BBM's are a sound investment. Your more than likely to get back what you paid for them if you ever sell them.

Some replica wheels are of poor quality no doubt about that, but if you pick which reps you buy you can get some VERY good quality ones.

From what I've read (I've been considering some replica RS4/6 wheels for about a year) there are some very good quality replicas about. TBH I'm not sure I would even notice if they were heavier on my motor.

To my mind replica OEM style wheels are slightly different to replica branded wheels but that isn't enough to put me off if there was a look I was after.

Why? Because they're reps?

They're nice looking wheels though (RS6 5 spokes) and look good on the Octavia VRs I think, as do many others... hence them being on the market in a fitment which isn't the standard 5x112 of the Audi or I'd have some original ones myself :)

Why? They are probably even made by the same people.

Fake Audi wheels on a Skoda = epic fail

I didn't mean from a quality point of view. What I meant was you are trying to fake a premium product, replica OEM wheels with a different fitment aren't as if you are faking a brand as such. Just a personal perception.

Personally I think chunky 5 spoke RS6 reps look pretty smart on the Octavia. The only wheels I prefer are OZ Superleggeras.

VW make 0 good looking wheels in 5x 112 pcd fitment, thats one of the reasons why people run out and buy Audi wheels, i had the best and biggest wheels going fitted to my car as standard (16") and i still didn't like them that much, VW really should have fitted 17" wheels to its larger cars like the Passat.

As long as the quality is up to par I could not care less.

I buy for function and appearance (where applicable), not a sticker that says "Brand X" on it. Assuming my criteria is met I will buy what is best value.

There are some Spoon/Mugen parts I could spend 2, 5, 10x more compared to another brand that offers exactly the same.

I dont think we are talking about alternative brands, more would you buy genuine or counterfeit?

Would you buy a fake Rolex or a real Rolex?

Not really comparable.

If you need a bespoke Rolex function/appearance for your time piece and do not want to pay for a full on then you get a fake.

People buy a Rolex for a Rolex, in which case a fake wont cut it.

Not really comparable.

Why not? One is an expensive branded product known for its craftsman ship. One is a copy of this aimed at people who want the look but wont pay the price.

I would say that a fake BBS LM wheel is exactly the same as a fake Rolex watch.

You are talking about buying a perceived inferior brand - ie chosing to go for Oz wheels instead of BBS due to price. Nothing wrong with that at all.

This was my thought. OEM+ is always my first port of call, hence the S16 wheels on my 306. The problem is when you have the 'best' spec wheels and they still don't cut it which is where I found myself with my car about 6 months ago. Now I'm saving up for my next one though so it can stay on a scabby set of stock vRS Spiders :p
