Whale killing in Denmark

But it's ok to put hooks in fish mouths and wrap them in nets for hours. Cute animal syndrome.
assuming it's the same as last time it was posted.

Indeed.

In Scandinavian atleast countries you can buy whale meat in everyday shops. It's not as common as it used to be but it's there. People are so angry about that and go on about how it is so horrible etc but I don't see anyone shouting about cows, chickens and pigs being bred in locked barns fed only to be slaughtered. Or how fish are being killed off by suffocating after being trapped in a net for hours. In some "beliefs" it's even okay to eat fish but not other animals

Not nice, seems a shame some "customs" can't be left behind. :(

Faroe islands they're the ones between Scotland and Iceland? (EDIT- Yea it is the ones i was thinking about, just confused me as it said in Denmark.)

You fail.

Quite nasty, I don't approve at all really, but as other people have said, cows live in very bad conditions in some places around this country, but nothing gets done about it really.

What like all hurdled up then massacred with massive hooks being hit and repeated several times, then there main vain slit and then bath in the sea of blood, and kids and families watch? Right ok cows in this country go through the same process.

I didn't think that people breed whales to be slaughtered and eaten???

They breed naturally but are slaughtered quicker than they breed. If they're not endangered now then they will be soon.

To all those people that are saying that we do not make a fuss about fishing, cattle killed for food or animal living conditions. Well you are wrong. If I saw any of those things posted then I would have the same feelings. It is not cute syndrome, I hate anything that involves killing or harming any animals etc.

Eh.. what

So because they are mass bred it's okay to slaughter but free living animals are not? If people are gonna shout about cruelty towards animals then do shout about the treatment of animals who do spend there life being prepped for slaughter aswell instead of just a selected group.

I don't eat meat purely because I don't like the taste or thought of it so no need to try and put some sort of guilt into me. But I can see both sides of the case still.

You can't be saying it's okay to be cruel to one kind of animal but not the other?

Meh.

Most of the electronic goods we purchase help destroy a fragile habitat somewhere or kill off a rare species of animal due to their production but you won't see anyone giving up their computers or suchlike to counter that. I wouldn't say the methods used to produce a lot of our food is particularly humane either.

First off, as already stated, the Faero Islands are not IN demark, they are a small group of islands to the far north of scotland, furthermore, they have had home rule since 1948, and are basically an autonomous constituent country.

secondly, the grindadráp is not a 'hunt' as such, they kill the whales closest to the shore, in order to provide whalemeat to the local community, it is not a commercial enterprise.

and finally, the photographs produced by most animal rights groups, be it of whaling, or fishing, or raising chickens, will ALWAYS put things in the darkest light possible, this is called "shock value", and to be honest, what did you think they did? coaxed them in with cookies?

Are you going to condemn france, for eating horsemeat?
What about all those countries that eat rabbit stew? (Oh no! not the bunnies!!)

And before you carp on about how endangered the pilot whale is.. please remember, IT ISN'T

Man has hunted since the beginning of man's time on earth. Why should it make a difference in this day and age? Its still man hunting beast isn't it?

What are you one of the whale killers??? You sound it and a nice chap at that.

It's not pretty but untill we as a race become completely vegetarian, it's no different to animal farming really. The only thing we can do untill then, is hope that the animals are killed as painlessly as possible.
