The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Possibly overkill, but pretty effective if used right. Especially for catching cloakers...

Yep - I have been caught once in a cov-op where they locked me in a split second before i could cloak. This was also in a warp disruptor bubble in 0.0 and they had drones buzzing 10km from gate. So, if you did get a cloak, you might get uncloaked by a drone (within 2km range) and also you couldn't warp away (from the bubble).
The good news was that my cov-op held together from the Interceptors & Assault friggies until I managed to get close to the gate.
The bad news was that the cruisers supporting also had Sensor Boosters and managed to get a lock before I could hit the gate warp button.

That would also explain why I see lots of shuttle or Reaper-type wrecks near gates in low sec - to uncloak ships jumping to a gate.
As for the use of drones, we did this a few months ago - an enemy scout jumped in and cloaked. Our fleet commander called for drones to be put out and ordered us to orbit 5km apart so that we could uncover the scout with our drones.... And it worked - the cov-op (Hound if I remember) was trying to put a distance on us under cloak, but our drones "bumped" him 30km away from the gate. We reckoned that he was trying to sneak near our missile & ECM boats (some distance away from gate) and act as a warp point for his fleet. A couple of sensor booster locks, target paints and some light missiles with medium projectiles from the fleet and the scout was toast. If I can remember, his fleet stayed on the otherside of the gate waiting for us to make a move. We didn't and the short conflict became a stalemate.

I'm not talking about the locking time, I'm talking about the time it took to start locking after the warp cloak went down - literally 1 game frame (~30ms + network latency) between 1 event and the other - which just isn't possible.

I was sitting there with mouse over cloak in the vain hope of getting it up before they started targetting and they had started locking in less than a third of the time it took me to react and click that button - and I'm a hardcore FPS player my react + left mouse is pretty fast.

Yes they were deffinatly sensor boosting - had me target locked in around a second but thats a different story.

As for poor piloting, it was more unforunate piloting, my recon said they'd jumped away so I took the chance only to jump through the gate at the moment they decided to warp back with re-enforcements - having failed to kill me the first time - I tanked 2x cane, 1x broadsword. But couldn't tank that + 1x drake, 1x apocalypse heh (crawled the 15km back to the gate only to pop with 5 seconds left to jump (based on the distance and speed when I died) :S).

I was Rroff's scout for this (in a covops), I saw the gate was clear, but knew the pirates were in local, I'd figured they were at another gate for a bit. I hung around for a bit afterwards, and it looks like what they were doing is sitting just off-grid from the gate, with a cloaked alt the other side of the gate. Whenever the alt gave them intel on a promising target jumping in they'd warp in fast enough to be there before the victim can load grid and decloak. Guess the HIC had infinipoint so WCS wouldn't of helped :(

Probably should have guessed from the pilgrim jumping in and out, I'm guessing he was the ship sat up cloaked on the high sec side most of the time calling the jumps :( ah well live and learn.

On the plus side was replacing a throw away ship with another throw away ship so nothing major lost, just means I need another throw away ship lol.

Ah yeah tis what we used to do in an old corp of mine :p sit 1000km off a gate and warp in as soon as the jump animation was visible, we caught quite a lot of stuff this way :D including a Raven alone, no scout with 1 billion worth of BPOs lol :p most of the good ones popped however :(

Now that you seem to be getting your teeth deeper in to the games what are your thoughts ?.
And your using voice coms ?

Gawd, I hate bubbles!
Our alliance is involved in a war that is +80 jumps away. They jumped the fleet over the Easter hols while I was offline. So last night I decided to buy a cheap destroyer (no frigates were available), fit it with a looted MWD and see how far I could get to catch up the fleet before being smacked in 0.0 space. I managed to get within 15 jumps of the alliance's new forward position after evading half a dozen gate camps and 3 abandoned bubbles. Problem was, I entered a system with just 1 gate in and 1 gate out, and a single neut in local. I warped 200km from exit gate and it was clear, so I warped away then back to the gate. During my travelling time, his mates jumped thru the exit gate and camped. Also, the single neut suddenly uncloaked 30km from the gate and pulled up a bubble. So on my warp to the gate, my destroyer gets caught in the bubble and their small fleet pops the ship in a couple of seconds. My pod somehow managed to eject just outside the bubble's edge, but still 30km from gate. So I try warping to an asteroid belt and then approached the gate from another angle - that worked... evaded the bubble and the fleet. The gang then followed me on a cat'n'mouse hunt into the next couple of systems, with me just edging ahead of them to the next gate. But on the 3rd system they had more friends, who simply made another bubble 10km from a gate and popped me one.
My clone was reactivated back at our HQ, +80 systems away from our battle fleet. The trip was fun and showed the ingenious methods and determination people use to trap lonely pilots. Who said life in Eve can be boring....
... But I still hate those damn bubbles...

ive only just found this thread :( been playing eve since 07 (made the account in 06 but that was only the trial)

must find in game channel now, anyone here part of the big alliances?

Our corp is in germinate and we are soon to leave,at this very moment our system is under attack and there is no way we can hold what we have.

Shame really, it means regrouping in empire and finding another 0.0 system to make isk in.
