Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - 15% Off on Steam - £33.99 - LOL

I got it £5 cheaper at launch.

By Steam's standards, this is a very poor deal. I expect their hands were somewhat tied with pricing though.

Not much of a discount really, it's still more than pretty much all other games. I have this on the PS3. 7 of us from work bought it to on release to play online and I quite enjoy it.

Pretty good idea by Activision.

Im actually surprised they even bothered to lower the price at all.

No they haven't.

The sims and WoW beat the cod series hands down.

Neither of those do, COD is 4th, warcraft 17th, sims 13th.

1. Guitar Hero (Activision Blizzard) $992 million
2. Mario Brothers (Nintendo) $761 million
3. Rock Band (Electronic Arts) $662 million
4. Call Of Duty (Activision Blizzard) $446 million
5. Wii Fit (Nintendo) $407 million
6. Grand Theft Auto (Take-Two Interactive) $361 million
7. Madden Football (Electronic Arts) $312 million
8. Wii Play (Nintendo) $261 million
9. LEGO (LucasArts) $224 million
10. Star Wars (LucasArts) $180 million
11. Sonic (Sega) $163 million
12. Gears Of War (Microsoft) $146 million
13. The Sims (Electronic Arts) $143 million
14. Tom Clancy (Ubisoft) $130 million
15. Pokemon (Nintendo) $119 million
16. Need For Speed (Electronic Arts) $106 million
17. Warcraft (Activision Blizzard) $104 million

Does that include the cost of hardware for the Guitar Hero franchise?

If so, then not surprising it is top as the average Guitar Hero "sale" will be 2/3 times that of a "normal" game.

Also, I am certain WOW has made the Warcraft franchise more in its lifetime than $104 million.

Surely that doesn't include monthly subs? WoW had over 10 000 000 subscribers before, each paying maybe $10 each?? So without including the initial cost of buying the game, they would earn this in a month. I think WoW wins this fight.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I suspect that list may be counting the profits from the number of sales of game copies, not by actual profits per game.

Very difficult to work out WoW's actual profit without knowing a lot of their server expenditure figures. I'd say it'd wipe the floor with COD profits though.

Yeah i find it hard to believe that WoW doesn't top that chart easily given its subscriptions... it does sound like its basing it on copies not actual profit.

Doesn't mean the sales/profits (not clear what the actual numbers are) are any less valid though - at the end of the day, people are spending that money on an expensive product that is part of the franchise.

Remember that essentially the Guitar Hero hardware is a large part of what makes the game, people probably wouldn't enjoy playing the game as much on a standard controller.

That must be retail only; ie. not including digital distribution or subscriptions.

If you could find a list that includes the above two scenarios, CoD would be much further down the list.
