Im bidding on a asus v9999 6800 card atm on the bay, but not sure if it will work, so can anyone find out if it would. im not sure if agp 3 cards which i think the 6800 would be would work on this dell as cpuz i think said its agp 2.0.

Lol no, just bros new comp, his broke a amd xp1900+ we found a guy selling old dell comps a p4 2.8ghz few drives no hdd or ram tho he stuck a 256mb in for us, so 20 quid for the dell base unit and got a 20 quid dell tft with a little mark which is fine really and be for mother.

In the dell 8300 is a gf 2 i put in (better than ati rage 128 16mb lol) so thought id get a gfx card for him to go better with the cpu he has now. Shame its not a HT cpu but speed is better than old amd he had.

edited to make it clearer.

I mean the agp slot looks like it could use it but the cards that work when in are diff to the slot but work. So as u can see bit confused as not delt with agp crap in ages. I dont wana buy the above if it aint gona work properly.

Eh?

The mem was free the dell itself was 20 quid, if u thought i meant 256mb for 20 quid u must be jokin that would be a rip off haha.

Yeah, your edit makes it much clearer! :D

Still, buying into old tech is still pretty pointless regardless of cost. I'd rather have spent £150-£200~ and got a PCIe based machine.

What a nice guy, I take it you like being utterly ripped off?

why is that ripped off? Sounds like a bargin, i'd pay another £10 on top for that... cpu £5, gfx £10, windows xp coa £60 (to replace), psu £10, MoBo £10/£15, if he had a pallet of 10 I'd come and collect them for that unit price..

Well he had 60 to spend, no one offering owt on mm here, didnt fancy ebay, looked on gumtree saw some okish ones tho would try knock price down. In the end found comp it was average so rang he didnt have it but had a crap load of dells in and tfts. He said there about 15-20 quid a unit so thought meh why not. So poped over, it was gona be a 2.4 but we got him to put a 2.8 in it and ram which wasnt advertised in sale. So 20 quid aint too bad, i mean the cpu is worth 10er ish, the drives 5er ish, each (dvd and cd), case few quid. So overall not too bad, hes on dole but when he gets sorted he probs let me build him a core2 setup.
