I have just purchased a second hand Q6600. It was advertised as a G0 stepping, it says SLACR on the chip itself but in CPUZ it says Stepping...B

Just a bit confused here...can anyone check there G0 for me please!

Thats an average vid, but still pretty good. If 70 is stock load temp its a bit high, maybe get a better cooler.

Mines running 3.6ghz, Vcore of 1.55 (load reduced to 1.48 because of vdroop on motherboard) Check what you Vcore is in bios and run prime95 and record what the vcore goes to in core temp

I have an arctic freezer pro and applied some arctic silver 5 paste. But that arctic freezer pro is so hard to seat correctly :(

I am at 3.1 now and no load temps are around 37 deg. Must rune prime to see how stable it is
 
I've just received my Q6600 (G0) today too, I'm also going through the process of overclocking it. Got to 3GHz no problems with a max temp of 61 degrees during prime95, according to CPU-Z while running prime it said the Core Voltage got as low as 1.360v, i've set the voltage in BIOS to 1.425v. I tried lower but it didn't enjoy it :P

Is that quite a large v droop do you think?
 
I waited cos i dont know the safe settings to manually test overclocking, im just using a built in setting in the bios. I can easily increase my cooling as i have all fans running at slowest speeds.

I would go to max 1.55v under load in core temp. I have mine at 1.55 in bios and its 1.48 in core temp under load. I had it at 1.65 in bios but it was getting a little hot and wouldnt do 3.8ghz anyway.

correct about heatsink/fans being hard to mount properly. I got annoyed with my scythe so got an H50. MUCH easier to fit and maintain. With heatsinks in the past i have cut my fingers,broke fins off and broke clips off. With the H50, i fitted mounting plate, screwed it into the mounts, put cpu and paste in then pressed the pump down on top and twisted it in. Easy
 
Hmm, I keep trying 3.25Ghz and it boots fine but once I enter my password to log into Windows it resets itself then boots again :confused: it's getting very annoying! :mad:

Tried various voltages too, 3Ghz boots and works fine and passes prime with 1.425 volts, but 3.25Ghz using over 1.5v keeps resetting :( (BIOS voltages)

My RAM voltages are fine and i've boosted my northbridge a little, however I remember having issues with Windows not liking some of my overclocks in the past with my E6600. Is a Windows reinstall on the cards do you think? :rolleyes:
