Ok so naturally I play quite a few games, my current rig is able to max out bfbc2 however I am giving this rig to my brother as a bday present, so I wish to know what I can pick up for 1150 go for the same spec or something a bit better perhaps?

My current ish rig is:

Phenom 955
RAM 4gb Corsair dominator
ati 5850 1gb
XFI fatal1ty sound card
500 W psu
gigabyte GA-MA790GPT
2x400GB HDD's
Xigmatek Midgard Case

well heres my shot, minus a sound card which i dont believe all too necessary and money can be spent else where :)

very nice, never considered the i5's during my search, I will look up some benchmarks quickly and see what it matches on my current then if all is good I will go ahead =) cheers for the feedback.

^ The i7 build looks good too, but that's an expensive case for his budget, and DDR3-1600 RAM would be better suited with an i7 build.

Mate, this is the way to go :

Borrow 20 quid from grandma or something. Put your OS on the SSD, overclock the CPU and GPU and you're set.

The very well scaling 5770 crossfire overclock will likely be faster then a single clocked 5870, in addition considering that the 770's seem to respond better to clocking. Then again you are sacrificing future possibility of xfiring the 5870, which is a really good choice too. In that case get a cheaper SSD and it will still fit the budget.

If im not wrong a 5870 > 2x 5770 and go with the black edition of the WD as the green one normally sucks if im not wrong XD. The SSD really looks nice thou.

the above guys build is ok if you want to go down the SSD route, but 30gb wont get you far at all. plus if you want it mainly for gaming the i5 performs better than the amd, and the 5870-vapour x is one beasty card

ps let us know what your eventual build is :)

If he really wanted a SSD he could drop down to a 5850 and overclock it then use that for a decent SSD but it will still be quite small in size.

For gaming take the i5 750 it'll allmost 100% goto 4Ghz and out preform everything forget Amd the first build from Phil is bang on the head of the nail.

If you want SSD, then at that price you should go for something like this:

Spending over a grand and not getting i7 or a 5870 is a waste IMO.

i guess the above guy is right, £1k+ on an i5 might sound crazy to some. but imo the i5 in gaming performs just aswel as the i7. my initial build will provide a nice steady overclock, it isnt compromised on components all are top notch. however if you wanted to spend a tad less ive revamped the i5 build knocking the best part of £200 off, which i guess could go into your pocket, a nice SSD or even a nice monitor... well here it is :)
