ATI 5850 ... Power Supply Question.

Im looking to upgrade from my 250 gts to a 5850

I was looking at the powercolour or sapphire but not sure which to get yet...

Question is on power supply requiriments?

I have a 580w x power psu which can deliver 46amps on the 12v rail I only have one 6 pin pci e gfx cable... Looking on powercolour webby it seems that the 5850 only use one 6 pin connector?

Is that true?

Plus any in sight on what card to go for... Think my minds set on sapphire...

All 5850s want 2 x PCIE 6 pin power connectors.

As for brands, Asus if you can get one. If not, whatever's available.

All 5850's need 2 6pin pcie cables, I don't see why that power supply wouldn't cope a 5850 won't use a huge amount more power than a 250. You will need use a 4 molex to 6pin converter but the card will come with two anyway.

I don't really get what it means by "Extention Power Connector" but all the 5850's are the same atm and they ALL have 2 connections.

Yeah thats what i thought... Just confused me a little lol

I have one spare molex on my psu atm ... Can i spilt that into two and then use the adapter for the second 6 pin connecetion...

I have only 4 molexs with this psu 2 already being used to run my 250 and one to power my fans.. leaves me spare.

The molex to pci converters that come with the 5850's only need one molex from what your saying I assume the one you are using now needs 2 molex? So with the 5850 all you will need is the 1 6pin pci from your power supply and 1 molex for the converter.
