Bought a new Sapphire 5870 today from ocuk to xfire my original sapphire 5870.

When the card arrived it was same box as my original card came in but the card looks very different.

The coolers changed and the power leads now connect at the front instead of the side.

It does say on the board its a 5870 card so ive not been robbed lol but just thought id let you guys know of the change to the cards.

Sapphire and a number of other AIB's have brought out their own designs with custum PCB's, this can mean better cooling and quieter fans but there are reports that you can't alter volts with these cards which would mean a very limited overclock, if you're not in to maxing out your cards then this is not a big problem. They are still selling the original reference cards so it looks right they have not updated the picture for the card you bought, I suppose you could return it under them grounds.

Im ok with the card raven and i wont be overclocking them.

Just giving a heads up is all

I would have prefered them both to look the same but not bothered enough to return the card.

The new cooler has a much larger fan than the original card and its also in the middle like the vapour x model. Its not the same cooler as the vapour x card though.

Yeah, you still have rocking performance and most probably better cooling with the new card, just a shame the card you see and buy is not always the card they send.

Yes Raven the performance is good.I cranked the cpu upto 4 gig and got 27400 3dmark06.

Its a real 5870 for sure but the pcb and cooler have been changed which is why i posted the pic to let you guys know as id not heard anything about any changes to the cards.

Johny when i had a UDR3 mobo, i had 2 5870s but the temps were silly due to the PCIE slots being so close together.
How are you temps on both cards?

The hottest card is my original 5870 in the bottom slot nearest the cpu and under load the highest temp on that card ive seen is 79c load and it runs 50c idle.

If i had a couple of gtx 480s that close in sli im sure they wouldnt last very long.

You have better cooling than my antec 1200 then, as with 2 5870s the bottom card was in the 100-105c:) with fan on 50-70%

Yeah temps are ok i guess but what i didn't reckon on was not not being able to use my xfi sound card anymore as it no longer fits with the 2 gfx cards there now.

yeah the pci and pcie slots are very close together, cracking mobo mind for the price.
The nearest you could buy to replace your Xfi is this which i use on my laptop:

a lot better than onboard Realtek sound.

Im sorted with the sound kmufc77 i just ran optical cable out from the mobo into my old spare dac which signal goes into my cyrus vs2 preamps that im using as headphone amp only.Sounds better than the xfi tbh.
