My mum is after a new printer/scanner thingy...

Anyone able to recommend a good/simple/cheep one?

Are you looking for cheap and cheerful? OcUK have that multifunction dell going for about £35 i think..

I'm currently using an HP Photosmart C5280, can't complain at all. Decent piece of kit, economical ink-wise, very happy with the print and scan quality.

Couldnt give you much more in the way of advice myself..

Two main concerns are reliability - I've heard some have poor paper feeds etc? And not ridiculous ink prices - I tend to buy 3rd party ink if I can...

Guess looking at something at around £100 or (preferably a lot) less...

I'm no expert tbh :( but with the printer I have, I get my ink from inkntoner (they arent a competitor right? :p) for a very reasonable price, which lasts a good while and I havent had a single fault with the entire system yet. (been using it for over 2 years now i think)..

Hopefully someone can give a better recommendation than 'something like that one Alex74 has' but..until then, that's the best i can contribute :p also seems to be going for less than 100.

canon tend to be nice but HP are cheaper.
tbh at that price point I don't think there is much difference
also I have noticed that compatibles DO reduce the life of your printer and can fade faster but if it's not photos your printing then who cares?

Have a look at the following:

Canon Pixma MP490 (around £60)
HP Photosmart Plus B209a (around £90)
HP Photosmart C4280 (around £55)
Lexmark Impact S305 (around £90)
Canon PIXMA MX320 (around £75)

You can find reviews for these on TrustedReviews, my own personal preference would be for the Canon as I own a Canon Pixma iP4500 and it has been very good, I would think you should also be able to get compatables for these...
